Qualification
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
Experience
  • At least 5 years in a senior marketing, fundraising, business development or sales position preferably in the NGO sector
Attributes / Abilities / Characteristics
  • Proven track record in marketing, fundraising and business development for significant organisations or projects
  • A strong network with knowledge of and the ability to access Corporate Social Investment partners,  philanthropic institutions and funders in the NGO sector
  • Ability to be innovative and develop various types of income generation streams
  • Ability to take a broad strategic view of issues facing NGOs and find innovative ways to package and market Columba Leadership in order to address funding needs
  • Strong funder-focus and the ability to influence and negotiate with funders and key stakeholders
  • Ability to adapt communication and plan appropriately for different audiences to successfully communicate Columba Leadership’s purpose
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Persistence and stamina as well as the ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Strong communicator with excellent interpersonal, oral and writing skills
  • Outstanding English communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulations and financial issues relating to Corporate Social Investment and B-BBEE
Key Performance AreasFunding, development and management

  • Develop a holistic understanding of the organisational strategy and the growth objectives in order to fully appreciate both current and future marketing and funding requirements
  • Conduct fundraising research and ensure new developments are integrated into new and diverse sources of income and support, including both restricted and unrestricted income streams.  Sources may include government, foundations, funding agencies, corporates, local sponsorships, web-based fundraising and opportunities arising from B-BBEE compliance, income generation projects and donations-in-kind
  • Implement the revenue development strategy and, where possible, ensure that the strategy is improved and updated with the latest and most innovative ways of business development and revenue generation
  • Actively seek to identify and develop new contacts and networks for the purpose of extending Columba Leadership’s sphere of influence in the interests of revenue generation and marketing
  • Manage, promote and develop current donor relationships through excellent service and regular communication working with the funding co-ordinator
  • Actively seek to identify new revenue generation opportunities within the existing donor portfolio and then implement such opportunities
  • Maintain and improve upon an information management system that is adequately cross-referenced of all donor contacts, preference information and correspondence working with funding coordinator
  • Ensure that reports are provided to donors timeously and are of adequate quality, drawing on the support of other senior managers within Columba Leadership
  • Support the CEO as required with the preparation of proposals and reports to large funders

Marketing and Communications Activities

  • Manage a comprehensive communications strategy which is reviewed and updated annually or more often in need working with the Programme, Alumni and M&E teams to share Columba Leadership’s purpose, insights and impacts with partners and stakeholders
  • Co-ordinate the production and creation of marketing materials including newsletters and annual reports
  • Oversee various communication channels including social media, working with the Communications Coordinator
  • Take an active role in training and mentoring team members on the importance of stakeholder engagement and value their role as brand ambassadors and strategies to support this

General and Management

  • Manage and mentor team members to ensure that they deliver to the best of their ability
  • Develop and manage processes and structures necessary for the achievement of delivery of income and marketing targets (e.g.  monthly meetings with the Programme Team in order to discuss and collect required information for reports and proposals)
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
  • Uphold Columba Leadership’s values and promote the best interests of the organisation at all times
