About HIH
Health In Harmony (HIH) is an international non-profit working at the intersection of human well-being and ecosystem integrity, a field known as Planetary Health, our goal is a common one: to reverse the rampant deforestation of tropical rainforests. But our method is unique: we engage with rainforest communities to design solutions that are beneficial to those communities, the local ecosystem, and the planet. Health In Harmony has a long term presence in West Kalimantan, Borneo, with replication sites in Madagascar and Brazil. Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities for this position are oriented around the following:
- Provide health care to communities in intervention sites in collaboration with partners.
- Management and coordination of private and government partnerships (Ministry of Health) and ensure interventions are legal and have local health department support.
- Work with Program Coordinator and Medical Assistant to oversee high quality health data collection
- Work with collaborators and partners in the Manombo area to ensure health interventions are implemented and coordinated.
- Communicate with HIH and collaborators on progress and consult where needed
Under the supervision of the Program Director at Health In Harmony (Ashley Emerson), the Medical Coordinator position is tasked with the following:
- With HIH Program Director and on site Program Coordinator, co-design health care interventions in target communities based on Radical Listening approach.
- Support Radical Listening sessions in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and HIH
- Conduct mobile clinic visits with partners and provide healthcare to intervention sites.
- Identify all health care providers, including Agents Communautaires (AC), working in the intervention site, as well as document the status of health clinics in the area (existence, staffing, functionality)
- Develop relationships with national, regional and local health authorities, in conjunction with MICET
- Set up systems for health provisions including medication list, supply chain, medical records etc. an manage inventory and maintenance of HIH medical equipment and supplies, including medicine
- Perform the missions given by the direct and indirect supervisors.
- Develop budget and cost analysis of health care services intervention.
Administrative Management:
- Receive and respond to emails in a timely manner
- Send internal mails to team members
- Send external mails to other external entities such as partners and collaborators
- Receive project visitors (if applicable)
- Hold project documents
- Familiarize oneself with Google Drive
Expectations
- Collaborate with the HIH team in execution of the assessment and interventions
- Respect of HIH regulations and procedures
- Act responsibly and with discretion in all undertakings
- Be scrupulously honest, show initiative and promote teamwork in all aspects of the job
- Act as a representative of HIH in all interactions
- To be familiar with the Règlements Interieurs and Note de service of MICET
Requirements
- A valid and current ability to practice medicine is required and the responsibility to keep this certification up to date.
- Hold a doctorate degree in Medicine
- A sense of communication with the public service, partners and villagers
- Have at least 3 years of experience in public health program management
- A mastery of the French and English language desirable
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
- A good mastery of computer skills (Office, Drive)
Time and Place of Work
Proposed start date: TBD
Working Time: 5 days a week for the duration of 12 months
Office Location: Farafangana (TBD), Field visits to villages with overnight stays (70%)
