We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Data Processing Officer

Location: Abakiliki, Ebonyi
Contract Period: Four (4) Months

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carrying out medical data collection and entry activities into the mission database, recording all relevant clinical and demographic data of patients and ensuring data quality/reliability according to MSF protocols. Maintaining confidentiality while producing the appropriate and updated documents for the medical team in order to support decision making processes.
  • Communicating regularly with the HCW’s, assisting in the (re)training when necessary, on proper registration of patients, proper filling of the various forms, clarifying queries, obtaining missing information and correcting errors, ensuring they have ongoing sufficient supplies of necessary hardcopy data collection forms.
  • Ensuring that all data entered has been authorized and that appropriate documentation has been received (patient records, treatment monitoring, etc.). Ensuring that all data entry processes occur in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensuring all data collected and entered to databases is consistently accurate and complete. Being responsible for ensuring that quality control queries of the database are followed up, ensuring identification of data entry errors and corrections. Immediately reporting to the supervisor, any anomalies in the database
  • Assisting in the compilation and preparation of regular reports and providing detailed information to medical and laboratory teams (weekly, monthly, according to patient treatment and project requirements).
  • Participate in data collection and data entry related to operational research activities in the project

Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
Education:

  • Must have at the minimum, a certificate in Computer Education
  • An OND, HND or BSc in Computer Science/Computer engineering, health technology, statistics or other related fields will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years work experience in data entry/analysis
  • Computer literacy; Ability to use Microsoft Office (MS Office, Word, Excel etc.)
  • Preferable: Previous working experience working with MSF or other NGOs

Language(s):

  • English Language essential

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.

Doctors Without Borders

Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.

MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

MSF's first missions

MSF’s first mission was to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua, in 1972, after an earthquake destroyed most of the city and killed between 10,000 and 30,000 people.

In 1974, MSF set up a relief mission to help the people of Honduras after Hurricane Fifi caused major flooding and killed thousands of people.

In 1975, MSF established its first large-scale medical programme during a refugee crisis, providing medical care for the waves of Cambodians seeking sanctuary from Pol Pot’s oppressive rule.

In these first missions, the weaknesses of MSF as a new humanitarian organisation became readily apparent: preparation was lacking, doctors were left unsupported and supply chains were tangled.
