About HIJRA
Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) is an international African humanitarian and development organization that aims to positively contribute towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by disasters and conflict in the Horn and East Africa.
HIJRA has been responding to the humanitarian crisis in Somalia since 1991 through the various program which includes health and nutrition, food security and livelihood, WASH, protection, and education. Through funding from UNOCHA, HIJRA is currently responding to flood response in Wanwalein District through Health and nutrition projects by providing primary health care and nutrition service.
Job Summary:
To provide maternal and reproductive health services to the project target beneficiaries during the medical mobile outreaches within program area of operation.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Educate and prepare women and their families for parenthood.
- Offer antenatal classes to discuss labour, pain relief, breastfeeding and life after birth.
- Give support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing and making up feeds.
- Advice women on their health, detect complications, refer to other healthcare professionals and promote normal birth.
- Care for diverse groups of women including teenagers, socially excluded, vulnerable and those with complications during their pregnancy.
- Assess risks, refer, document and multitask while viewing pregnancy as a normal life event.
- Carry out emergency procedures, keep up-to-date with current knowledge and maintain a portfolio of your development.
- Provide health education and counselling on child spacing.
- Management of Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases
- Referral and linkage for SGBV further more support.
- Documenting patient information
- Writing program report including activity, weekly, monthly and quarterly
- Any other duty assigned by the supervisors Performing physical exams and patient observations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Registered with relevant regulation body (The Midwife Association Council)
- Diploma in Midwifery
- Valid midwife practitioner license
- At least 3 years working experience in a community set up
- Ability to work within a team and take direction
