World Vision Uganda is a Christian relief, development and advocacy non-government organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice. We currently work in over 82 districts in Uganda implementing projects in health & nutrition, water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihoods & community resilience, education and child protection. Position: National Strategy Coordinator

Report to: Programme Quality Director

Location: Kampala – National Office

Purpose of the position:

The National Strategy Coordinator will play a critical role in supporting the development of World Vision Uganda’s new national strategy 2021-2025.

Specifically, the role will support the Programme Quality Director and the Strategy Steering Committee through coordination and monitoring of the strategy development plan (approximately Aug 2019 to Feb 2020) and strategy implementation planning process (approximately Mar-Jul 2020).

Key Outputs/Responsibilities.

Coordination of strategy processes

Provide effective coordination, communication and liaison with/between internal stakeholders for the effective implementation of development plans for the National Strategy 2021-25 and the subsequent Strategy Implementation Plan (SIP), including:

  • Work with the PQ Director and Steering Committee to develop detailed development plans.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure that plans are on track.
  • Liaise with regional office to ensure that strategy is fully compliant with WVI requirements.
  • Facilitate strong collaboration between internal stakeholders engaged in strategy development.
  • Coordinate regular Steering Committee meetings, ensuring preparation of all necessary information.
  • Provide strategic advice to Steering Committee.

Facilitation of strategy processes

  • Support facilitation of various stakeholder engagements, potentially including internal staff workshops, meetings with community members (including children and youth) and meetings with government officials etc. Note: the exact nature and scope of this component will depend on the specific skills of the jobholder.

Communication

  • Coordinate timely and effective communications with staff, senior leadership, WVU board members and other key stakeholders on the strategy process, as required.

Preparation of strategy documents

  • Coordinate the writing and publication of the National Strategy document and Strategy Implementation Plan, including directly writing the majority of the document narratives.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

  • A university degree is required. Candidates will be considered from a wide variety of academic disciplines, including development studies, law, business administration and social sciences.
  • Excellent communication skills (especially writing, but also orally) are a key requirement.
  • Successful candidate must have excellent logical reasoning and problem-solving capacity.
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience is required.
  • Experience in the humanitarian/development sector with an NGO/UN agency is an advantage. However, candidates from other sectors will be considered.
  • Experience in working with strategy and/or business planning processes is essential.
  • Proactive personality, self-driven and strongly motivated.
  • Capacity/potential in leadership, relationship management/networking, and coordination.
  • Proven facilitation skills.
  • Team player.
  • Committed Christian
