Context:
Under the overall supervision Emergency Health Project Officer in Addis Ababa, and direct supervision of the Health Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of quality health services as part of the IOM Mobile Health and Nutrition teams, in connection with other IOM emergency and post crisis (EPC) activities:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient consultations for early diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions under the primary health care services
- Facilitate the referral of patients with moderate to severe medical conditions and/or diagnosis in need of secondary health care facilities in coordination with the Health Officer
- Maintain a record of all consultations and ensure proper collection of data for weekly Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) and morbidity reports using sex and age disaggregated data. All reports should be sent to the Health Officer for weekly review
- Participate in pre-natal and post-natal care for pregnant women as well as routine and mass vaccination campaigns, maintain records of data disaggregated by age and sex
- Conduct community-based health education and awareness sessions on relevant topics based on identified health problems in the area of operation
- Create a smooth working relationship with health extension workers (HEWS), including skills sharing as part of Health Systems Strengthening
- Conduct weekly physical inventory of medicines and medical supplies and reporting any drug rupture or low supply of medicines to supervisor
- Supervise proper medical waste management at the clinic site
- Maintain quality standards and ensure that all medical information is kept confidential
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with the IDP communities and host community and be a team player with other health professionals as well as other IOM teams working in the sites
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
Required qualifications and experience:
- University Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution with four years of professional experience.
- A holder of a valid Practicing Certificate from a recognized institution.
- Experience in recognized institutions in primary health care is an advantage.
- Having a diploma in Psychology or sociology is an added advantage.
- Experience in applying nationally and internationally accepted protocols and guidelines.
- Computer literate.
Languages:
- Knowledge of English and Amharic
- Knowledge of other local languages is advantageous;
