As a registered charity, founded in 1979, Action Against Hunger operates in 45+ countries. The international network of Action Against Hunger is represented in France, United Kingdom, Spain, Canada, USA and India. Teams in the field combat hunger on 4 fronts: Nutrition and Health, Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL), Water, Sanitation and hygiene (WASH), and Mental Health and Care Practices (MHCP).
For our Nutrition Department in Borena, we are currently looking for the following professional:
Nutrition and Health Program Manager
General Assignment:
To establish and manage a nutrition and health program
1: Project implementation
- Prepare detail implementation plan of activities and program goals in order to achieve the set objectives.
- Plan/forecast program budget and monitor the financial utilisation of the program.
- Coordinate program implementation with other actors (government and NGOs) in the project area.
- Conduct site visits to monitor the implementation of activities and give guidance to the team.
- Ensure that CMAM performance indicators will be achieve as per the SPHERE and national guidelines.
- Ensure that primary health activities indicators are reached as per the national guideline standards.
- Develop terms of reference for workshop/training.
- Support the Woreda Health office to prepare supply request based on the identified gap
2 Follow up and monitoring
- Initiate new project development (prepare concept notes for projects) based on accurate baseline surveys and information if needed.
- To critically follow evolution of the disasters/outbreaks in the area.
- Propose timely responses in case of nutrition emergency and disease epidemics.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation tool for the going project.
3: Team management/Capacity building
- Participate in the recruitment staffs
- Conduct performance appraisal of the team members as per HR schedule.
- Identify teams training needs and develop the capacity of the team by delivering on job training.
- Work and collaborate transparently and efficiently with all the support departments both at base and capital levels.
- Organize basic training on Nutrition (CMAM) and primary health care for the HEWs and health workers.
- Providing induction training for the newly recruited staffs on programmatic activities of the organization, JD’s, past project achievements and other expectations.
4: Represent AAH
- Participate in meetings at Woreda level
- Implement other duties and responsibilities assigned by the DNHTA,NHTA and Field Coordinator
- Develop a network of contacts at base level (INGO’s, Government, technical, political) to allow a smooth implementation of the project.
- Active participation in Emergency Nutrition Coordination meetings at both woreda and Zonal level.
- Close follow up of the overall health and nutrition situation of the four Woreda’s where AAH is operational and if possible other areas of concern in the region with detailed interpretation of different indicators such as direct follow up of health status, outbreaks, general nutrition status, situation of harvest, hunger gap period, market prices, livestock in targeted areas.
5: Ensure the following reports are written and submitted on time:
- Prepare weekly situation reports for Woreda’s if required
- Prepare monthly situation reports and APR(Quantitative and narrative) to Field Coordinator
- Prepare monthly/quarterly activity progress reports for AAH institutional donors or cording to agreement.
6: Participation on nutrition strategy development
- Participate actively in developing a coherent and sustainable nutrition strategy for the country.
Job Requirements
Educational Qualifications and Skills Required:
Qualification/Level of studies: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree preferably in Nutrition/ Health officer/BSC nursing/ health related field or its equivalent; nurse diploma will be an asset
Required skills: Good human relations and diplomacy – Analytical capacity – Capacity to organize the work and supervise the team –Knowledge of logistics (storage, transport, quality control) – Computer knowledge – Experience in problems linked with humanitarian crises Good knowledge of English (read, written, spoken)
Language: – Fluency in Oromiffa Language is a Mandatory
