Description of internship project:

Better Hearts, Better Cities is an initiative to improve Cardiovascular health in low-country urban population. Better Hearts Better Cities seeks to achieve this through a multisector approach addressing hypertension and its underlying risk factors in a sustainable way at scale. Three cities are implementing this multisectoral project:  Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, Sao Paulo in Brazil, and Dakar in Senegal. PATH partners with key local stakeholders (MOH, Districts, IntraHealth, CRDH, Companies…) to:

  • Identify Gap and barriers to accessing on essential medicines and technologies
  • Develop an algorithm of Hypertension treatment based on WHO and MOH protocols
  • Create Hypertension patient file, and register as well as a Dashboard to visualize data from the field
  • Organize and facilitate a company’s coalition to fight hypertension by prevention and wellness workplace program.

For this internship, the intern will support the BHBC team for the development of companies’ coalition to fight hypertension. The intern will help the BHBC coordinator efforts in energizing and communicating with companies about how to develop well-being programs including non-communicable diseases fighting. The internship will also support the Coordinator project’s efforts to create strong relationship with coalition members and create space of discussion about their interest in well-being programs.

Internship goals and learning objectives/benefit to the intern:

During this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to exercise his/her skills in communication and improve his/her knowledge of company’s coalition, health lifestyle and Non-communicable disease.

Skills to be developed and/or expanded during internship:

  • Development of communication materials including use of social media tools and systems
  • Skills in facilitation support
  • Skills in Business development

Proposed activities:

  • Help create and energize a strong coalition of companies interested to fight Non- communicable diseases
  • Assist in the coordination of the companies coalition
  • Help create communication support about health lifestyle with coalition members
  • Help in organizing events and meetings with coalition members
  • Help to maintain communication and relationship with coalition members
  • Participate with the team project on recruiting new members in the coalition

Learning outcomes (how the Intern’s performance will be evaluated):

The intern will receive ongoing feedback and guidance from supervisors and coordinators.

The intern’s performance will be evaluated based on:

  • Completion of tasks according to the determined timeline
  • Coordination of Companies coalition
  • Communication materials developed
  • Coordination of meeting and events organized

Required skills and experience:

  • At least 1 year of experience working in Communication
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in facilitation
  • Knowledge in social mobilization
  • Knowledge on coalition mobilization strategies
