Dimensions of the Role

Lead the implementation of the advocacy, influencing country strategy plans and activities to promote the concepts and practices of communications and media advocacy

Lead joint communication campaigns with WARO, IH, and NOs.

Lead external public relations strategies to raise Plan’s profile raise organizational credibility and to support country advocacy campaigns; strategically positions Plan in the country through activities focused on information, education and networking, the publication of case studies, media campaigns and organized field visits.

Provide technical support and capacity building to the country communications staff to establish strong external and internal communication functions

Coordinate the annual budgeting and operational activities of the communications unit

Accountabilities

Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Coordination of marketing initiatives including product development in partnership with WARO, IH, NOs, the Country office team and Pus

Coordinate the rollout and implementation of corporate and region-wide initiatives on communications and PR

Adherence to Plan’s Child Protection Policy and related procedures in all aspects of work

Identify, coordinate, develop, and lead the Country Communications strategy in line with the Global CS

Position Plan in the Country as the leading international children’s NGO for issues related to children and development

Identify strategic issues for the country to publicly engage in

Provide strategic advice to the Country Office Management Team, the Country Director and all Directors on communication issues.

Build the Region’s communications capabilities

Liaise with the Global Communications team, and coordinate National Office requests and visits

Ensure compliance with communications processes and procedures

Manage the design, development and implementation of media campaigns and material

Manage the provision of regular press releases, press conferences, and proactive and reactive commentary

Identify and cultivate a network of national, international and regional media contacts

Support the Global Advocacy Campaign and global communications team

Establish strong links with peer organizations, governments, corporate, and academia

Provide emergency communications support, advice, and timely updates to the global organization in conjunction with WARO/IH

Devise and develop issues management guidelines in conjunction with IH

Guide CO in creating and integrating communications and PR strategies in the country strategic plan

Communications support to country office events and national initiatives

Plan International is an international organisation or development which works in 51 countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia to promote the safeguarding of children.It is a nonprofit organisation and is one of the world's largest organisations based on children, it works in 58,000 communities with the help of volunteers to improve how 56 million children live. The charity also has 21 national organisations who have been given the responsibility to oversee the raising of funds and awareness in their individual countries.

The organisation puts an emphasis on communities working together in order to address the needs of children around the world. The NGO focuses on child participation, education, economic security, emergencies, health, protection, sexual health (including HIV), and water and sanitation. It provides training in disaster preparedness, response and recovery, and has worked on relief efforts in countries including Haiti, Colombia and Japan.

Plan International also sponsors the Because I Am a Girl campaign, which has published many stories focusing on the struggle of young women in the developing world.

Plan International was founded during the Spanish Civil War by British journalist John Langdon-Davies and aid worker Eric Muggeridge. When they witnessed the conflict change the lives of children, they founded ‘Foster Parents Plan for Children in Spain’, which would later change its name to Plan International. Set up in 1937, the organisation provided food, shelter and clothing to children whose lives had been destroyed by the war.
