Background

Fondazione L’Albero Della Vita Onlus (FADV) is an international development organization headquartered in Milan – Italy. Since 2006, FADV has been operating with the primary objective to promote and protect the basic rights of children along with improving the quality of living conditions for the marginalized people, with special emphasis on children and women.

FADV has been working in Kenya since 2011, focusing on Children’s rights and protection. In collaboration with the Department of Children Services (DCS), FADV has offered services in Statutory Children Institutions so as to improve conditions for the children.

In May 2018, with the financial support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, FADV started a new project in partnership with several Departments of the Kenyan Government. The project is also supported by several National and International partners with a specific focus on: Restorative Justice, Alternative Care and Juvenile Justice.

Summary of the position

We are looking for a Private Sector Manager. An expert who will shape key approaches in the private sector & private donors engagement and partnerships to maximize on programmatic impact and sustainability.

The expert will work with the team at FADV to: Strengthen and expand FADV’s engagements with the private sector and tap into its core expertise with a view to accelerate results and opportunities for children and youth; engage private partners and actors in the business sector to explore innovative financing in support of children ‘s agenda.

It is a great opportunity for flexible people with strong communication and negotiation skills who are experts in the partnership and fund-raising fields with marketing techniques, ready to take up a new challenge. We are looking for a team player who will be responsible for the strategic development of this specific component, in order to achieve our programmatic goals.

Purpose of the assignment:

The Manager will ensure the achievement of the following:

Innovative Development Financing

  • Explore the Kenya market looking for engagement opportunities for High Value Donors.
  • Design and support the implementation of a High Value Donor strategic plan (private sector, foundations), to expand the existing fundraising strategy and ensure a return on investment.
  • Deliver personalized, relevant messaging to potential private donors and prospects through creative communication.
  • Develop fund raising and marketing materials (fact sheets, position papers, presentations etc.) targeting the Kenyan Private sector (including Private Foundations).
  • Support FADV in raising awareness, promoting and improving CSR policies among the Private Sector to include Social Protection components with specific attention to the promotion of Kinship and Foster Care, inclusion and employment of vulnerable Youth etc.

Shared-value partnerships

  • Organize the mapping of actors in the Private sector and networks within Kenya, starting from an already existing database (companies, enterprises, Foundations, etc.) including TVET programs.
  • Facilitate linkages and agreements between FADV programs and private companies to support inclusion and job placement, apprenticeships and any other possible way that will sustain beneficiaries of FADV programs.
  • Understand the minimum standards/ requirements for employees, interns or apprentices, within the private sector with regard to different levels / categories of jobs so as to facilitate the identification of possible opportunities for the beneficiaries.
  • Conduct assessments of any current PPP realized with key government counterparts and private sector by interviewing stakeholders and partners and through desk and literature research, maintaining knowledge of emerging best practices on enhancing private sector development and PPPs and keeping abreast with the latest trends and developments in addressing PPP to ensure comparability of the approach to the best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for public-private partnerships, develop and implement strategies for engagement with the private sector, mapping and exploring opportunities for agreements and PPP between private sector and the stakeholders involved in FADV programs within the Juvenile Justice and Alternative Care sector, with the aim of creating opportunities for children and youth while expanding the organization’s funding opportunities.
  • Organize meetings with relevant stakeholders and departments to analyze their needs and feasible partnerships so as to promote PS and Public engagement.
  • Develop a guideline on the Public-Private Sector Governance, so as to sustain the inclusion of vulnerable youth in different types of employment opportunities (link between the private sector, public services and development cooperation programs).
  • Promote collaboration between FADV programs and other programs simultaneously developed by actors of the Private Sector in Kenya to support vulnerable and most-at risk- categories.
  • Facilitate, whenever possible, the establishment of PPPs between relevant Government Departments and the private sector to strengthen and expand the organization’s intervention.
  • Carry out field visits in the FADV program target areas to strengthen linkages with the private sector (formal / informal) at the local level for promoting new partnership opportunities.
  • Conduct whenever needed, training for project staff, stakeholders and government counterparts on PSE.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the line manager, relevant to the achievement of Project and FADV objectives.**

Expected deliverables:

  • Comprehensive updates on the Private sector data base.
  • High Value Donor strategic plan/recommendations for the private sector with a focus on foundations.
  • A report of all ongoing PPPs with targeted government Departments and the private sector, including a mapping of proposed new PPP opportunities within the framework of Juvenile Justice and Foster Care in Kenya and emerging best practices and last trend on enhancing private sector development and PPPs.
  • 1 document of Guidelines on the Public-Private Sector Governance.
  • 6 PPP arrangements between the private sector and key government agencies (DPAS, DCS, KPS, NPS).
  • At least 6 training sessions on PSE to targeted stakeholders and partners.
  • A set of at least 6 fund raising and marketing materials (fact sheets, position papers, presentations etc.) focusing on the Private sector (especially Private Foundations).

TIMEFRAME:

Start date: January 2021

Expected end date: September 2021**

Education:

A degree (or equivalent) from a recognized university is required in one of the following fields: Marketing or Communication, international relations, international development or any other relevant technical field.

A Master degree in Fund raising (or equivalent) is an asset.

Experience

  • A minimum of three years of postgraduate professional experience in PSE, private sector partnership management, marketing or fund raising sector, resource mobilization, external relations, carrying out similar tasks;
  • proven experience in conducting partnership, marketing negotiation and activities;
  • Previous experience in Public Private Partnership (PPP), Juvenile Justice and Alternative Care in Kenya is an asset.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated capacity to develop win-win partnerships
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong data handling, analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail

· Good understanding of private sector engagement principles and ability to develop a vision for both private and public sector alignment /convergence for increased development outcomes for children and youth

· Knowledge of marketing techniques and a good understanding of fund raising tools

· Capacity to develop smart and appealing communication and fund raising materials

· Must be fluent in English and Swahili
