Job Title: Professional Nurse – NIM DR TB Nurse Mentor

Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA NPC) is a South African Section 21 not-for-profit entity and an affiliate of Interactive Research and Development Global (IRD Global Limited), and has fully operational offices in Johannesburg (Gauteng), Pretoria (Tshwane) and in Durban (KwaZulu-Natal).

Position Summary

Overall consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care. Assist in the development of processes and procedures to ensure quality patient services and compliance of professional and ethical standards.

1. Duties:

  • Responsible for operational and strategic management of all services for the district/sub-district, i.e. hospitals, CHC’s, clinics, mobiles and satellites related to the Global Fund TB Project
  • Provide clinical supervision and support services and implementation of TB infection control and prevention
  • Ensure efficient planning and control and the effective use of all resources
  • Participate in Human Resource Management and Skills Development
  • Ensure the provision of high-quality treatment and care to TB, DR-TB and TB-HIV patients and support monitoring and reporting
  • Mentoring
  • Plan and implement Health Promotion and Prevention activities.
  • Link with the community structures and stakeholders
  • Collect data and submit reports according to request and project prescription
  • Provide services to the surrounding communities
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Other project management activities may occur as the needs of this project evolve

 2. Requirement:

  • Minimum educational qualification of basic R425 qualification (diploma/degree in Nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as Professional Nurse
  • Post-basic competency certificate in Nurse Initiated Multi Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Treatment and Care (NIMDR-TB)
  • Registration with the SANC as Professional Nurse and prove of valid membership
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills in English and at least one other South African language
  • Valid unendorsed code 8 driver’s licence
  • NIMART certification is a strong recommendation

 3. Experience:

  • Knowledge of South Africa’s current evident-based TB/DR-TB and TB-HIV investigations and treatment
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to working with multi-cultural groups
  • Experience in TB/DR-TB and TB-HIV program monitoring and evaluation
  • In developing and making professional presentations to present to relevant stakeholders

 4. Skills:

  • Understanding of South Africa’s public health and development trends and approaches
  • Self-motivated with an ability to handling pressure situations and keep being polite
  • Strong computer literacy in:
    • Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Power Point, e-mail along with strong internet-based skills including methods of online communication (Skype, Social Media Platform, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-cultural group
  • Able to work under pressure
