The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.
Overall purpose of the role:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) plans to implement a youth engagement and communications program in Tigray Region within refugee camps hosting Eritrean Refugees. The project aims to engage refugee youth in the creation and dissemination of audio content within the camp context. As part of this project, DRC seeks Production Assistants to support in developing a creative and dynamic refugee camp-based radio program, including content production in various formats on the issues relevant to the Eritrean refugee community. The role will involve assisting in research, training, and audio production and post-production activities.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Senior Program Officer (Media Production) to implement participatory research activities through the administration of research tools and data collection.
- Working closely with the Senior Program Officer (Media Production) in training and mentoring refugee youth to use basic audio production and post-production equipment and in applying editorial values and principles to produce their own audio content.
- Supporting refugee youth to develop an understanding of best practices in journalistic standards and do no harm principles.
- Contribute to reporting on audio production and training activities, including providing inputs for weekly and monthly reports.
- Administer monitoring and evaluation tools, and maintain accurate and comprehensive files of activities, and other relevant documentation.
- Assist in the management of refugee outreach workers and support respectful and positive working relationships for the effective implementation of activities.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS
Experience and technical competencies:
- Minimum two years of experience working in media
- Demonstrated professional experience of working with various stakeholders (including government and non-government, local communities) in production of audio content on issues of societal relevance.
- Understanding and knowledge of local humanitarian and development context.
- Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively and harmoniously with people from different backgrounds.
Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or above, preferably in Journalism, Media and Communications.
Language
- Excellent Tigrigna language skills both spoken and written
- Good English language skills both spoken and written
