Search Guinea

Search for Common Ground has been in Guinea since 2001 and currently has approximately 45 staffs located in three offices (Conakry, Nzerekore and Labé) as well as focal points based in other regions of the country. SFCG in Guinea uses a range of tools to transform conflict and build peace, including media (radio, television, social Medias), outreach (participatory theater, mobile cinema, comic books, joint action, art and culture events), capacity building and dialogue (town-halls, dialogue session, facilitated mediation, public forums, score cards) among others. The program tackles a wide range of conflict-related thematic areas, including democracy, governance, elections, and natural resource conflicts, land conflict, youth engagement, post-Ebola recovery. Each program is adapted to specific local context and conflicts, and all apply common ground tools from our toolbox. We work with local partners in the different regions of the country.

We are Searching for…

This position will be a support function to SFCG’s program in Guinea, and most specifically to the country director. The position will be responsible for programmatic development with reports and proposals writing and technical assistance. In addition to capturing results and contributing to program implementation, the holder will engage in donor contacts, engage in humanitarian fora and write reports and proposals. The position holder will work to strengthen the capacities of local staff in various domains, including report writing and planning skills. S/he will be supervised by the Country Director and will provide technical support to him managing his agenda with donors. S/he will work with SFCG’s Africa Team on reports and proposal writing.

Your Contribution

  • Lead reporting mechanisms on programming in Guinea working with projects managers and programme coordinator/officers to ensure results-oriented focus and quality reporting
  • Produce quarterly/monthly programme updates, newsletters, and other donor information
  • Responsible for communication on our results through the website, success stories, blogs, updates, including video- and photo-material, providing content material for updating the project websites, as well as regular program updates, newsletters, and other SFCG literature
  • Work with programme staff in the country to identify funding opportunities
  • Lead the development of complementary programs, including program design, proposals and concept notes-writing.
  • Act as personal assistant to the country director, managing his travels, meetings and agenda with donors.
  • Support to prepare and organize strategic and management meetings of the organization
  • Liaise with appropriate stakeholders for developing and communicating about programming in the Guinea
  • Attend representational meetings such as NGO coordination, donors, partners, Government and other stakeholders, etc.
  • Support the roll-out of SFCG’s regional strategy in the Guinea and of new projects as assigned • Implement special projects as assigned
  • Support growth within the organisation, including learning between country programmes and opportunities for new funding
  • Be engaged in the continuing development of the organization, its mission and its staff, through the sharing of experience and knowledge, particularly contributing to its Institutional Learning initiative

You are…

You meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international development, international relations, conflict resolution or other related field
  • Written and oral proficiency in English and French
  • Three (3) years of work experience, of which one (1) of these years of experience should be in conflict resolution, international development or related field
  • Knowledge/experience in Africa, especially countries in conflict
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience in proposal writing and development
  • Ability to represent projects professionally to a variety of audiences
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with strong attention to details
  • Flexibility (including ability to travel on short notice)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and coordinate and compile information from various sources.
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural team.

Search for Common Ground was established in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2001. SFCG’s DRC program runs multiple programs to enable Congolese at all levels of society to transform conflict without violence and build durable peace. SFCG in DRC has approximately 110 staff located in offices in Kinshasa, Bukavu, Goma, Bunia and Kalemie and collaborates with partners in all provinces. SFCG DRC’s programs use diverse peacebuilding tools including mediation, dialogue, capacity building, media productions and training,   participatory theatre, mobile cinema, comic books, joint action projects, public forums, and arts and culture approaches.  The program tackles various issues across a range of sectors, including governance, repatriation and reintegration of returnees, security sector reform, media training and professionalization, sexual and gender based violence as well as regional cohesion.
