FCA Kenya is looking for a Program Officer

  • Primary purpose of the position: Responsible for developing and supporting planning, learning, documentation, reporting and research within Kenya Country Programme and its projects

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist program staff to develop data collection systems especially for new projects, assuring consistency with the FCA guidelines and tools, and in accordance with specific donor requirements
  • Together with program staff write project logframes for new project documents to support the continual improvement of program design
  • Ensure that projects’ documents and reporting deadlines clearly reflect FCA’s contributions to the rights holders (especially the most vulnerable) and duty-bearers
  • Ensure that complaints handling and feedback mechanisms are synchronised and continuously documented
  • Act as the Focal Point for FCA AKF forum
  • Ensure a project baseline is planned, coordinated and implemented within the first 3 months of a project start-up
  • Ensure that project documents considers aspects such as output, outcome, process and country context levels and that appropriate data collection and reporting tools are developed and used
  • Carry out field visits to document stories of change emerging from project participants, conducting data verification, quality assessments and reporting the findings
  • Develop tools to gather relevant data according to project logframes, assuring the feed into FCA Country Programme Results Framework
  • Train FCA and partners’ staff on data collection, including mobile data collection
  • Synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data received on a monthly/quarterly basis
  • Develop and update project level databases when needed
  • Prepare mid-term and end of project FCA/donor reports
  • Organize and facilitate trainings on documentation of best practices for capacity development of FCA and partners’ staff
  • Orient and support new staff on data requirements of their projects
  • Together with programme staff facilitate periodic reviews with partners for dialogue, learning and reflection from assessments, program progress monitoring etc

Competence and Personal Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor degree or higher in Social Sciences field
  • 3 years field experience in Program Design and Development and Capacity Building
  • Understanding of the concept of accountability and its implications to donors
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse quantitative and qualitative data, and use it for high quality reporting and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through informal and formal training
  • Previous experience in developing, planning, and reporting on project documents and data collection tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Computer proficiency in word processing, Power Point, database, spreadsheet and graphics presentations and other applications
  • Experience of working with development, humanitarian and/or advocacy programs in Kenya
  • Integrity, objectivity and professional competence
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to (cultural) diversity and gender issues

Africa and Asia as the main targets

In 2016, FCA provided aid for 34 million euros in value. The majority of our funds come from private investors, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, and parishes. Over 85 percent of the donated funds are directed to aid work. The share of domestic operations and general administration is about 15 percent.

Most of our assistance goes to Africa. The need for assistance on the continent has been caused and maintained by political instability, prolonged crises and natural disasters. The second most significant target for aid funds is Asia, which has the largest number of people living in poverty.
