The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in international health.

Programmatic – Monitoring & Evaluation Expert – Local position based in Nairobi – Kenya

Summary of scope

As part of our various mandates and member of a multi-disciplinary team, you will contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of health programs financed by various donors in terms of monitoring and evaluation (performance evaluation and monitoring, verification of programmatic aspects, design and implementation of surveys and epidemiological studies, site visits to implementing entities, data collection, interviews with patients, health care providers and other stakeholders, drafting of comprehensive statistical and analytical reports from major studies or ongoing projects, providing expertise in the design, management and evaluation of study protocols and health status questionnaires, sample selection and analysis).

To best fit into our active, interdisciplinary team we are looking for candidates with:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience in the health sector with expertise and knowledge in a) monitoring and evaluation procedures and approaches; b) performance evaluation of health programs and systems and programmatic reviews; c) in-depth epidemiological knowledge (survey protocol, report analysis) and interventions related to the fight against HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis and any other disease, including knowledge of vaccination;
  • Advanced degree (minimum Master’s level required) in epidemiology, medicine and/or statistics. A degree in public health is an asset;
  • Professional experience and knowledge of the health sector in Kenya both required;
  • Strong professional oral communication and writing skills, including the development of reports, oral presentations, and technical/persuasive documents.
  • Ability to perform epidemiological and statistical analyses on data and prepare results for review;
  • Excellent command of English (speaking & writing) required AND a local language (Swahili) an asset
  • Team spirit and initiative, ability to work with professionals of different expertise in a multicultural context;
  • Good command of IT tools (in particular Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), the Internet and statistical software such as Stata 13, SPSS, Epi info, CSPro, etc.

An initial contract of two years will be offered with possibility of renewal based on performance.
