Context:

As part of a project on Safety, Support and Solutions in the Central Mediterranean Route funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), and as part of a Programme on Mixed Migration funded by the US Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM), the Regional Office for West and Central Africa based in Dakar, Senegal, is hiring a Programme Assistant.

Under the overall supervision of the Senior Regional Migrant Protection Specialist and the direct supervision of the Mixed Migration Regional Programme Officer, the Programme Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the implementation of the “Africa Regional Migration Programme” and “the Safety, Support and Solutions in the Central Mediterranean Routes Programme;
  2. Attend meetings of the Regional Working Group on Mixed Migration;
  3. Ensure liaison with regional partners, especially with UNHCR, DRC, OHCHR, UNICEF and Save the Children;
  4. Write regular project activity and donor reports in English, and support in the review of country office reports in line with technical and donor requirements;
  5. Support with the monitoring and evaluation of projects,
  6. Update the project database regularly;
  7. Coordinate and provide logistic support in conjunction with internal and external meetings/workshops/training among the different components of the project;
  8. Assist with the supervision of the project related administrative tasks;
  9. Be responsible for proper documentation, review, filing, handling and archiving of project documents, related documents, and communication and make recommendations to improve filing and documentation;
  10. Support visibility and communication activities related to the project;
  11. Undertake duty travel when necessary;
  12. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • University degree, or equivalent, in Social Sciences, Humanities, Development or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with two years of relevant professional experience, or;
  • High-school diploma, with four years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

  • Experience in migration related programming and/ or protection of vulnerable groups;
  • Experience in the UN system or in International Development is a distinct advantage;
  • High level of computer literacy and good knowledge of the MS Office applications;
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

Languages

Fluency in both French and English is required.
