An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with proven humanitarian and partner management experience to join our team in the DRC as Programme Director.

The Programme Director is to be based in and responsible for managing the Programme Department and field based operations for Tearfund in the DRC. He/she will assist the Country Director in the leadership and management of Tearfund’s project work and a portfolio of partners, ensuring the effective design, assessment, resourcing and monitoring of projects in support of the delivery of Tearfund’s DRC country strategy whilst ensuring projects reflect Tearfund Quality Standard commitments.

The post holder will represent and advocate on behalf of Tearfund and its partners with donors, partner organisations and governmental bodies. The post holds specific line management responsibilities for the Programme Manager, Area Manager, Project Coordinators and Sector Advisors. The Programme Director is a member of the Senior Management Team and reports to the Country Director.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A degree or equivalent in development management studies or related subjects
  • Relevant senior level field management experience in multi-sector, multi-funded relief and development programmes which includes strategic planning and thinking, project management and capacity development, and budget development and management.
  • Excellent people and team management skills
  • Proven success in securing institutional funding

Tearfund is a UK Christian relief and development agency which works in over 50 countries. It is a member of the Disasters Emergency Committee.Tearfund supports poor communities, marginalised groups, vulnerable adults, children, churches, education, HIV victims, conflicts, injustice, hunger, water and sanitation.

The charity was created out of the Evangelical Alliance (EA) and the Evangelical Refugee Fund created by the United Nations.

The organisation was originally called The Evangelical Alliance Relief Fund Committee (abbreviated to TEAR Fund).

George Hoffman headed up the fund.[In January 1969 Cliff Richard did two fundraising concerts for Tearfund at London's Royal Albert Hall.:29 He has served as the charity's Vice President and in 1999 served as its president.In 2009 Richard gave the proceeds of his first 50th anniversary concert in Wembley Arena to Tearfund.

Tearfund was registered as a charity on 6 March 1973.

Tearfund Ireland was launched as an independent charity in 2008 and now works closely with Tearfund UK as a sister organisation.
