role PURPOSE
Plan International is an independent child rights and humanitarian organisation committed to children living a life free of poverty, violence and injustice.

Plan International has set a goal of reaching 100 million girls and to achieve this goal it will not be done through business as usual. We are challenging ourselves to find new and impactful ways of tackling gender inequality and working with girls to find new ways to protect their rights. This means new types of programming, new bold ways to influence those with power, and new business models for Plan International and the sector.
With Funding from Plan International Innovation fund, the main purpose of this position is to support the implementation of an innovative project working with young mothers in informal settlements with limited skills and education.
Dimensions of the Role
The Project Assistant will be responsible for mobilizing, coordinating, and supporting young mothers working in informal settlements of Kayole and other areas working as domestic workers and small-scale traders to organize themselves into cooperative groups as a means of pooling their resources for investing, saving, and providing safe and affordable day care services for their children. The project assistant will act as a link between Plan International and the young mothers. The office holder will provide mentorship/support to groups in organizing themselves and supporting them to become financial independent and improve on their financial well-being.
The funding of this role is to test a support a 7-month project in Kayole
Additionally, the role will require liaison with other project teams to ensure synergy and integration of project interventions. The incumbents will report to the Project Manager.
Accountabilities
Project design and Implementation: 40%
- Develop Monthly activities and budget plans to be implemented as per approved work plan and that all activities are on track with appropriate scheduling, quality and timelines
- Build relationship with relevant staff to ensure all logistics and procurement processes are in conformity with Plan policies, procedures and standards
- Facilitate access to relevant and accurate information on the project to stakeholders including the government officers, parents, and children.
Manage Project budget: 15%
- Prepare a breakdown of project budget by activities
- Monitor project expenditures and ensure compliance with approved budget.
Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation: 20%
- Consolidate/write project reports in line with the laid down requirements and Plan standards.
- Contribute to documentation and sharing of best practices with all stakeholders
- Work with project team and M&E team in documenting project achievements and lessons learnt
Build and manage stakeholders: 20%
- To engage and maintain cordial stakeholder relationships for effective project delivery throughout the project cycle
- Managing community conflicts
- Managing community/Plan Policy conflicts
- Maintain good working relationships with other Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).

- Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Essential
- Completed form four and acquired KCSE certificate
- Strong Knowledge of community development.
- Conversant with child rights issues and child participatory methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience of working with children and youths
- Hold personal values, ethics and attitudes, which are in alignment with the principles of the Plan’s Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy.

Physical Environment
The project officer will based in the program unit and will be required to use a motorbike for frequent visits to the field sites for project visit, meetings and implementation.
