Project Coordinator, Advancing the Rights of Children and Youth with Disability

About the Role:
The Project Coordinator is accountable for providing management and oversight of the implementation of Save the Children’s two-year project that aims to promote the rights of children and youth with disability in partnership with a local organisation called UWEZO.

Save the Children Rwanda and the implementing partner UWEZO will work closely with youth and children with disability (Y/CWD) to promote implementation of the State obligations and commitments to the Child Rights Convention and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD). This project will pilot a new approach to evidence-based advocacy for and by a new generation of Y/CWD in Rwanda and support them to express themselves on how they see the fulfilment of their rights at grassroots levels and how they enjoy them in different setting s such as home, school, institutional care, rehabilitation centres etc.

The project will focus on Gasabo, Kicukiro, and Musanze district with awareness raising activities on disabilities and the CRPD and related commitments for community members, women and men, and decision makers. Building on this, Y/CWD will be supported to learn data collection and research and thereafter conduct advocacy actions on issues important to them. Teacher and employer trainings and peer-to-peer mentor programmes in selected schools will further inspire duty-bearers and rights holders to deliver on and claim rights to education, independence, employment and participation.

Qualifications and experience
* Degree in Social Sciences or related field
* University degree and 3-5 years of relevant area work experience or equivalent
* Strong demonstrable skills and experience in project management, monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability – includ ing budget holding responsibilities;
* Proven experience in disability inclusive programming, accessibility adaptations
* Strong understanding of the global, regional and national framework related to persons with disability especially children and youth
* Strong understanding of civil society and rights based approach to development and partnerships
* Experience of organisational capacity building and partner support
* Problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Proven project management skills
* High level report writing skills in English
* Good understanding of Child Rights situation and disability rights in Rwanda
* Desirable experience working with the Washington Group Short Set and Child Functioning Module

Contract length: 2 Years
