The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, www.nexteinstein.org) is a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable Africa’s brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers, problem solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa’s future scientific, educational and economic self-sufficiency. The first AIMS centre opened in Cape Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and Rwanda. The goal of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) is to build a pan-African network of 15 centres of excellence across the continent by 2023.

Each AIMS centre provides an intensive and broad education to over 50 African students each year and prepares them for leadership careers in academia, governance and industry. The AIMS educational program relies on top international lecturers who teach in a 24-hour learning environment.

Project Coordinator – AIMS Industry Initiative

The AIMS Industry Initiative seeks to maximise the opportunities and potential for the mathematical sciences to contribute to Africa’s economy through human capital, knowledge transfer and applied research. We connect AIMS graduates with for-profit, non-profit and government institutions that lead development. AIMS builds strategic partnerships with organisations to fill top vacancies with proven talent. AIMS graduates have world-class training in mathematical sciences and applied research. They also have training in communications and other professional skills necessary to succeed in performance-driven organisations.

In support of the AIMS Industry Initiative, we are in search of a smart, enthusiastic individual to join the team as its Project Coordinator. Inspired by an ambitious mandate, and led by the Senior Program Manager – AIMS Industry Initiative, you will be responsible to initiate, administer and organize all project related activities, with the goal of achieving a flawless implementation of the AIMS Industry Initiative.

As an aspiring administrative professional, you will be at ease to work in start-up mode – to identify, develop and implement the necessary administrative systems and processes to effectively and efficiently support day-to-day operations of the Industry Initiative. In this start-up role, you will interact and collaborate with a diverse team of administrative, program and financial professionals across our global Network. Additionally, you have the aptitude to confidently contribute to the preparation of grant documents and grant applications, you will also coordinate the Big Data for Development (BD4D) Project including its Innovation Challenge component, in collaboration with a hired service provider, a firm made of experts in design thinking for business development solutions.

This is a full time, opportunity based at the AIMS Global Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.

Do you have what we need?

· Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a related field

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience coordinating and delivery projects

· Strong English language skills; French a desired asset

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Excellent stakeholder-facing and internal communication skills

· Solid organizational skills; ability to multi-task, with attention to detail

· Highly Proficient in a Windows environment using MS Office and select internet applications (Google Docs, Dropbox, Skype), in addition to project management tools

· Experience in non-profit environment, an asset

· Exposure to social media, an asset

· Flexible, intellectually curious and creative
