ALPS Resilience implements and manages education-based projects amongst the most marginalised communities to strengthen their ability to respond to, withstand and recover from adverse situations.

ALPS Resilience seeks to appoint a Project Manager, to be based in Cape Town for its work with the Somali diaspora of the Western Cape.

 ALPS Resilience works in conjunction with its community-based partner, the Somali Association of South Africa (SASA), to deliver adult education classes and social cohesion activities geared towards helping Somali refugees and asylum seekers become integrated and self-reliant.

The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the project is meeting its intended inputs, outputs, outcomes and impact in a timeous manner.

Project Management:

  • Travel to the project site at least twice a week to monitor activities and meet with project staff
  • Organise and lead bi-monthly all-staff meetings
  • Collect all project receipts and create monthly invoice packs, ensuring the projects is financially accountable and on-budget
  • Submit required reports and requests for payment to the donor in conjunction with the monitoring and evaluation consultant and financial officer

Development:

  • Develop and implement creative income-generating and fundraising activities for the project (especially for the youth sports programme)
  • Locate at least two appropriate funding opportunities for ALPS Resilience each month from international cooperation agencies, national government or private foundations to continue working with the Somali diaspora in the Western Cape and expand our work with migration in Southern Africa
  • Assist the Programme Manager to write at least two high quality proposals to submit on behalf of ALPS Resilience each month
  • Maintain existing relationships and initiating new relationships with various stakeholders and donors
  • Assist ALPS Resilience’s Programme Manager in writing funding proposals, policy briefs and reports related to the project and ALPS Resilience’s work on forced migration

Media and Communications:

  • Contribute at least one policy brief, project report or related communications output per month

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate University Degree (Honours or Masters), preferably in development or a related field
  • Undergraduate University Degree
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the nonprofit or development sector
  • Proficiency in English
  • Knowledge of French or another South African language would be an advantage
  • Written and oral skills
  • Must communicate regularly with ALPS Resilience’s Programme Director, Programme Manager, Financial Officer and other project-based staff
  • Be willing to work from the project site in Bellville at least twice a week
  • Demonstrated passion for issues related to refugees or development and must display a keen interest in working in the NGO-sector
