Sightsavers are recruiting for an experienced Project Manager to lead on the implementation of the inclusive eye health work in two regions of Zambia, as funded by the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Contract: 2 year fixed term contract (with the aim of renewing)

Location: Zambia, Lusaka

About the role

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivery of inclusive eye health programme targets, provision of programme management guidance and direct technical support to build the development of integrated eye health programme and advocacy eye health on a national basis.

About you

As Programme Manager, you will be responsible for strategic programme development, as such the role would suit someone with exceptional project management skills as well as experience of engaging with partners and stakeholders within the International Development context, ideally within the thematic areas of eye health, social inclusion and education.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the identification of new and strategic programs and assist in the development of programs through proposal writing
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Ministries of Health and Education and other partners in order to advance sustainable national plans and integrate them into the existing public health delivery systems
  • Lead on supporting country teams in developing a system for monitoring and evaluating in Inclusive Eye Health.
  • Develop relationships with other NGOs to support funding and delivery of services, including NGOs in Covid, WASH sector
  • Represent Sightsavers at appropriate national/regional/global forums
  • Assist project teams and country Ministries of Health in disseminating information on IEH activities, studies, research and lessons learned at national and international level.

As Programme Manager you will have:

Essential

  • Significant experience of strategic programme development.
  • Technical knowledge of Eye heath and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs).
  • Experience of managing an integrated Eye health or NTD programme in Zambia
  • A demonstrated record of accomplishment in developing and managing public health programmes.
  • Understanding of the health system in Zambia
  • Experience of advocacy.
  • Experience of monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience of logistics and supply chain management.
  • Ability to influence high-level government officials and NGO leaders.
  • Excellent networking and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent financial and resource management skills.
  • People management skills with a strong diplomatic understanding of culturally and ethnically sensitive issues.
  • Able to travel regularly on a national and international basis.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity for disabled people
