Project Officer for its “SDG WASH-COVID-19 Response”

Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia has been working in Ethiopia since 2002 in close collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health implementing a range of projects in maternal, neonatal and child health, reproductive health, health systems strengthening, health workforce development, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases across the country, supported by a wide range of multilateral and bilateral donors, corporates and foundations.
Amref Health Africa would like to recruit Project Officer based in West Arsi Zone and will report to Project Manager.
Amref Health Africa would like to recruit a Project Officer for its “SDG WASH-COVID-19 Response” project in Oromia region. The job holders will be based in Oromia Regional State and reports to the Project Manager.
Purpose of the Job:
The main purpose of the job is to facilitate, planning, implementation of COVID-19 response, and evaluation of Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia’s WASH-COVID-19 response intervention in SDG WASH intervention woredas of West Arsi zone, Oromia regional state. He/she will also make follow up and monitor project implementation of each planned activities and COVID-19 pandemic investigation and response in communities. She/he will report to the Project Manager and works with the project assistants to implement the project in West Arsi Zone.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, implement, monitor WASH-COVID-19 project activities
- Compile weekly updates , monthly, quarterly and annual report and submit to project Manager
- Supervise two field project assistants and give technical backup support
- Participating in site selection for construction of hand washing and other WASH facilities
- Follow up the construction of WASH facilities.
- Develop modules and manuals to support the WASH-COVID-19 project.
- Support project activities including technical support
- Organizing, facilitating COVID-19 related workshops and trainings in communities, institutions, Women groups’, schools, out of schools, natural, local leaders and other partners.
- Participate in regular COVID-19 related meetings and workshops.
- Design/develop COVID-19 related IEC/BCC and other promotional materials and facilitate the distribution.
- Facilitate community mobilization activities on COVID-19 prevention and control.
- In collaboration with project staffs boost the quality implementation of the project activities as per the project objectives and operational plans.
- Direct supervision and implementation of project activities.
- Compile report periodic internal and donor reports: monitor and report on relevant activities and outcome/impact and submit to M &E and project manager.
- Manage activity budgets including processing of relevant financial transactions and implement the activities.
- Ensure collaboration and coordination with government and stakeholders
- Undertake joint assessment to identify gap and status of COVID-19 and surveillance in the project implementation woredas.
- Facilitate logistics and procurement of PPE supplies for COVID-19 response and ensure timely delivery of supplies.
- Organize, document and compile basic data on WASH-COVID-19 project and community in the project implementation area.
- Represent Amref in any COVID-19 meeting organized at woreda, zone and regional level.
- Identify gaps in various activities and provide/propose relevant materials to the project manager
- Provide updates and regular progress reports on WASH-COVID-19 response activities undertaken.
· Assist the project in any emerging issue as requested by the supervisor
Terms of employment: 1 year with possibility of extension based on availability of fund and performance

Job Requirements
- BSC /and or MSc. in Environmental health and or Public Health.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience directly related to WASH and emergency response.
- Excellent computer skill; including Microsoft office applications ( word, excel and PowerPoint), SPSS and navigating the internet
- The candidate must have strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation and networking skill.
- Should be a team player and work under minimal supervision.
- Working knowledge of the local context, and NGO experience is a plus
- Experience on emergency disease outbreak investigation and response.
- Experience of facilitation of trainings, review meetings and workshops.
· Additional training in WASH/SBCC is advantageous.
- Knowledge of the local language, and proficiency in written and spoken English.
