Who we are
SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia is an International Non-governmental organization and a member of SOS Children’s Villages International Federation. The organization started its humanitarian work with the opening of its first Village in Mekelle, Northern part of Ethiopia in 1974. The organization has been providing life-saving provisions such as food, water and health services for a very significant number of children devastated by severe drought and the subsequent famine.
Today, we have grown significantly to meet the persistent challenges that confront Ethiopian children who have lost parental care and are at risk of losing their parental care. Working in close collaboration with international donors, local government and community based organizations across seven program locations; SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia aspires that every child grows up with love, respect and security.
Why we need you?
Together For Inclusion (TOFI) Project focuses on Human Rights Advocacy (HRA), Inclusive Education (IE) and Economic Empowerment (EE) at local, regional and national level, and will improve the accessibility, participation and influence of persons with disabilities in Ethiopia and the Project will run for two years.
We are looking for a Project Officerwho will be responsible for liaising with partners to assess the education context, identify and address gaps, develop annual implementation plans and to monitor/evaluate Programme impact.

Your role….
As a Project Officer for TOFI Project, you will be in charge of the following:
- Leading the initial assessment of families of potential child participants facilitating the preparation of a family’s first family development plan (FDP),
- Preparing detailed implementation plan and budget for the intervention area,
- Conducting small inclusive awareness group sessions among the community, especially to persons with disabilities identified and their caregivers/family members on CRPD, business literacy and other livelihood issues that are relevant to the target communities.
- Ensuring community mobilization and participation through informal group discussion and inform the community about DPO’s, and other support service providers.
- Supporting the implementation of Inclusive Community Psychosocial events with the support of volunteers.
- Training and supporting target communities in improving their livelihoods and link them with MFI’s
- Supporting the involvement and participation of specific community groups (especially, persons with disabilities, disabled people organization, etc) to develop inclusive awareness raising materials using different channels: sketches, drama theater, pictures.
- Maintaining up-to-date understanding of target communities including disability barriers and social dynamics
- Networking with consortium members and external service providers to reinforce access to essential services.
- Establishing and maintaining positive and efficient relations with consortium member, target beneficiaries, community members, and all the other actors operating in the project area
- Participating in coordination meetings with other stakeholders to drive activities and results of TOFI Program.
- Assessing and identifying the needs and gaps of the respective target schools and other partners,
- Facilitating and/or providing training other supports to volunteers, teachers and other KIP’s on project related activities,
- Providing technical support to project implementing partners and schools,
- Working closely with government offices and project implementing partner,
- Facilitating and participating in data collection related to different assessment, baseline and end line survey for the project,
- Following up on different trainings at schools and community level,
- Building complementarity of SOS CVE partner actions, build consensus of locally-appropriate, interventions between agencies: avoiding duplication and gaps,
- Contributing to Program database that consolidate and analyze information that is critical to decision
- Producing case stories and share to the line supervisor every quarter,
- Preparing project progress report with the required quality and time.

The must haves:
- BA Degree in Sociology, Psychology and special needs education
- Minimum 2 years’ technical experience in implementing disability inclusive projects [Inclusive advocacy, inclusive education, inclusive economic empowerment, inclusion of person with disability principles, vulnerabilities, UN Convention on the Rights of Person with Disability (UNCRPD)] and conducting awareness raising in humanitarian settings.
- Experience in Training need Assessment, Planning and Facilitation
- Demonstrated understanding of the Ethiopian education policy
- Proven experience in facilitation and community mobilization skills
- Technical and report writing skills
- Fluent spoken and written English
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point)
The Pluses:
- Fluency in the language(s) spoken in target communities
- Previous experience working with international NGO’s
- Experience in Monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- Motorbike driving skill and license
