About the position
ZOA – Uganda is seeking to recruit a project officer who will be responsible for implementation of project field activities mainly focusing on youth agribusiness skills development in Yumbe. S/He will build the capacity of the TOTs to carry out training of Youth. S/he will work closely with OPM, UNHCR and local leadership structures of both refugees and host communities (sub-county agricultural offices, community development officers, LCs, RWCs, religious and traditional leaders) in regard to youth enterprise development. The project officer will ensure that approved activities are implemented, monitored and reported according to agreed plans.
Major responsibilities:
• Facilitates Implementation of agribusiness activities.
• Work with refugee and host communities’ leaders to select pro-active out of school youth and organize them into groups
• Recruit and build the capacity of TOTS to train selected youth groups in agribusiness development
• Ensure field monitoring and reporting on the development of agribusinesses and Village Savings and Loans Association(VSLA) on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to the Project Manager
• Document and submit quarterly stories on individual youth’s progress in the community
• Implements activities as described in the project proposal based on ZOA’s country policy
• Perform any other role assigned by the Supervisor.
• Participates in and sometimes leads the development of education project proposals;
• Any other duty assigned by the Programme Manager or Country Director.
Qualifications and experience:
• Minimum 2 years of professional work experience in Agribusiness development, including in a refugee setting
• Degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture, Development studies or any other related field.
• Knowledge of participatory Agro-enterprise development is an added advantage.
• Excellent facilitation, communication skills and writing ability.
• Competence in Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLA).
• Knowledge of local West Nile Context and language (Must).
• Knowledge on Market Systems Development is a plus.
Additional requirements:
• Ability to work in an environmentally harsh area
• Good computer skills, Ms excel, Ms. Word
• Self-motivator having the ability to work with limited supervision
• Ability to work in a team in a continuously changing environment
• Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid driving/riding license (Must)
