I Choose Life – Africa (ICL) is a youth focused organization that seeks to empower youth in Kenya and across Africa as the foundation for sustainable development. Registered in 2004 and working closely with Government, ICL has over 14 years’ experience implementing evidence based adolescents and youth programs in over 345 institutions of learning (Primary, Secondary and Higher learning institutions) across 23 Counties in Kenya. The organization implements programs in Health and Nutrition, Education, Economic Empowerment and Leadership and Governance Sectors. To ensure maximum impact in these sectors, ICL utilizes a multi-sectorial approach, Quadra Helix development approach (which brings together the Government, Private sector, Academia and Civil society) to foster innovative and sustainable transformation in communities

Vision: ‘Healthy Africa, Empowered People!’ Mission: To improve the life opportunities of youth aged 10-24 through strategic empowerment for sustainable development.

Job Purpose: To contribute towards reduction of new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) ages 10-24 in the focus counties by 40 percent through the provision of a tailored, comprehensive and evidence-informed service package targeting AGYW who are at the highest risk of HIV infection. In addition, support counties in the actualization of their County Strategic plans aligned to Vision 2030.

Key Responsibilities

Project implementation and training.

a. Presenting and implementing of Evidence Based Interventions targeting Adolescent girls and young women.

b. Assist in office administrative issues, particularly pertaining to records, payments and other key issues.

c. Responsible for overall management of the adolescent safe spaces at the ward level

d. Ensure that the Safe Space is equipped and stocked with Afya Ziwani commodities, it is safe and that is branded accordingly

e. Ensuring that the EBIs of SHUGA, SASA, FMP and promotive interventions like Condolympics are implemented to reach the targeted AGYW

f. Coordinating the work of mentors and facilitators in the wards keeping records of their activities and work plans

g. Participate in project, organizational and institutional meetings take notes/minutes and work harmoniously with other stakeholders.

h. Work closely with PATH, World Vision and Local CBO’s, where applicable in identifying vulnerable girls to be support by the Afya Ziwani project.

i. Producing Monthly Ward Narrative and Data Reports besides hosting periodic review meeting with Mentors and facilitators

Communication

a. Identify and develop Project human success stories to share on the organization’s social media and partners.

b. Work with project team to develop picture speaks and newsletter for various activities

c. Work with the ICL communication officer to develop project communication materials.

d. Work with ICL Communication Officer in Project and organization Brand enhancement.

Resource Mobilization

a. Take part in resource mobilization through participation in proposal development with other program staff.

b. Conduct donor research via the Internet and other means to assist the project team in identifying and targeting donors and funding opportunities.

Project Monitoring& Evaluation

a. Assisting the project team in development of databases and data collection tools for the project.

b. Help in consolidation of project data

c. Keep records for data collected and reported. Ensure evaluations of trainings and project activities are conducted and reports written and submitted to the assistant project officer

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities

  1. A minimum of Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development or related field.
  2. Must be Trained Facilitator or Trainer of Trainers in 2 EBIs
  3. A minimum of two years experience implementing adolescent focused projects is required
  4. Should be Computer Literate, work well with MS Word and MS Excel and Internet research methods
  5. Highly motivated to learn and work in a high-performance environment.
  6. Willingness to learn, tackle challenges and seek creative solutions in everyday assignments.
  7. Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both Verbal and written. Must be able to meet urgent and last-minute deadlines, work with grace under pressure, and function well in a high-performance team.
