TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR INTERNSHIP

Background information/Organizational Context
Côte d’Ivoire is gradually recovering from nearly 10 years of conflict that came to a peak in late 2010 and early 2011 with the presidential election and a post-election crisis that displaced more than 1 million people internally and nearly 300,000 in the region.
One of UNHCR’s priorities in Côte d’Ivoire is the voluntary repatriation of Ivorian refugees in neighbouring countries. 270,762 Ivorian refugees have been repatriated since 2011 despite the interruption due to the Ebola virus outbreak, of which 72,156 with the support of UNHCR.
Côte d’Ivoire is also one of the few countries to recognize the existence of a stateless in situ population, considered one of the largest in the world. In 2013, the government acceded to both Statelessness Conventions and took steps to adopt the Abidjan Declaration and the Regional Action Plan to eradicate statelessness in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
