INTERNATIONAL PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION

The European Union (EU) – funded project will be implemented in Cameroon, Chad, Sudan and Mali. The project’s aims to contribute to the protection of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of Women and Girls, specifically refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees living in forgotten crisis settings.

The Project Coordinator will manage all technical and financial aspects of this project, while liaising with IPPFAR partners and key stakeholders of the project including implication on Women and Girls, specifically refugees (Cameroon, Chad and Sudan); IDPs (Mali, Sudan) and returnees (Chad) host communities, as well as national and local authorities and structures responsible for supporting refugees/IDPs/returnees.

KEY TASKS

• Manage the project following recommended EU and IPPF ARO Project cycle phases, including planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting

• Lead the development and support the implementation of countries plan of action including processes and tools adapted to advocacy and communication

• Support the development and implementation of the overall monitoring and evaluation plan including the operational research

• Coordinate project steering committee meetings and effectively represent IPPF ARO in project working groups and planning meetings

• Support the overall technical assistance strategy for CSO’s capacity strengthening

• Support the project to build strategic partnerships with thematic agencies and clusters working in the project communities, including with Media and Private Partners

• Ensure proper documentation and promotion of the project good practice at national regional and international levels

• Coordinate communication between all partners and with the donor.

• Collaborate with the accounting team for the development, implementation and tracking of IPPF ARO and partner/CSO budgets, cashflow plans, and development of variance reports

• Develop and implement with the support of the accounting team, co-funding and pre-financing strategies for IPPF ARO and partners, and implement resource mobilization activities to fill financial gaps

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Gender and Development Studies, Social Sciences, Project Management or other related areas.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the field of SRHR, gender and /or Humanitarian, 7 years relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree.

• Knowledge in SRHR needs and challenges in humanitarian post crisis settings is desirable.

• knowledgeable in policies and practices in Africa about Sexual and Reproductive health and Rights and Women’s rights preferred

• Good understanding of national, regional and continental government structures and multi-lateral institutions in Africa

• Experience in working with several donors

• Experience in effective management of budgets in line with donor requirements

• Strong experience in grants and compliance management, especially with EU rules and regulations

• Strong project cycle management experience including monitoring.

Competitive remuneration will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

In the early 1950s, a group of women and men started to campaign vociferously and visibly for women’s rights to control their own fertility.

Family planning as a human right challenged many social conventions. Campaigners faced great hostility to gain acceptance for things that we take for granted today. Some were imprisoned. But they emerged determined to work with different cultures, traditions, laws and religious attitudes to improve the lives of women around the world. And so, at the 3rd International Conference on Planned Parenthood in 1952, 8 national family planning associations founded the International Planned Parenthood Federation. IPPF.

60 years later, the charity is a Federation of 152 Member Associations, working in 172 countries. It runs 65,000 service points worldwide. In 2011, those facilities delivered over 89 million sexual and reproductive health services.

Funding and structure

The IPPF Secretariat comprises Central Office in London and 6 Regional Offices:

Africa (Nairobi)

Arab World (Tunis)

East and South East Asia and Oceania (Kuala Lumpur)

European Network (Brussels)

South Asia (New Delhi)

Western Hemisphere (New York)

Each Regional Office oversees, promotes and distributes core funds to Member Associations in the Region.

Each Region sends 4 representatives to the biannual Governing Council which determines the Federation’s global policy. Volunteerism is central to IPPF’s ethos and millions of volunteers work with the Federation around the world.
