Program Overview:

The five-year READ II project, funded by USAID, will boost the quality of literacy instruction and student support, reaching out to children at risk of failure and dropout caused by cognitive, emotional and physical effects of hunger, violence, and displacement. READ II seeks to better equip teachers with effective early grade reading instruction techniques and materials in seven mother-tongue languages and English, while simultaneously building a culture of reading in the school, home and community.

Position Summary:

The Regional Cross Cutting Coordinator will provide support to the READ II project team and local counterparts for cross-cutting structured gender approach and interventions for vulnerable and at-risk populations within their assigned region of Ethiopia in coordination with the Senior At – Risk, Vulnerable and Refuge Students Specialist and Gender specialist.

Reporting & Supervision:

The Regional Cross Cutting Coordinator will report to the Regional Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the senior gender specialist to conduct studies on gender and EGRA results.
  • Assist in development of materials to address female dropout and poor performance.
  • Collaborate with the at-risk specialist to implement student success and support packages with schools and communities
  • Manage the design of social messaging around girls’ education focusing on educational challenges.
  • Support woredas/school to develop an effective School Improvement Plans (SIPs).
  • Support students in refugee camps and host community schools in target woredas.
  • Develop the student success and support package that focuses on improving access to education, engagement and performance for at-risk children.
  • Train schools and communities on gender issues and school support packages
  • Other related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in education or related pedagogically oriented field;
  • At least 5+ years of general experience and 3+ years of experience in work specifically to improve education programming directed to rural, ethno-linguistic underserved populations;
  • Proven experience developing effective training materials
  • Proven experience organizing schools and communities to participate in trainings
  • Prior experience with supporting family/community engagement of education outcomes;
  • Professional proficiency in written and spoken and English.
  • Fluency in English and official working language of the region.
