Lambano is a care and Pediatric Medical Step-down Facility/Hospice facility for children with life limiting and life threatening illnesses.
Lambano seeks to appoint a Registered Counsellor, to be based in Gauteng.
Reports to: Executive Director and Doctor
Responsibilities:
- Act as a facilitator of group counselling sessions or a mediator in conflicting resolution settings
- Provide mental health care and support to homes (children aged 12-21), hospice patient’s adolescents), hospice families (adults and siblings) and staff (adults) through the following:
- One on one individual counselling at Lambano or through home based care
- Family counselling at Lambano or through Home based Care
- Career Guidance – for homes children
- Psycho-education for staff, homes and hospice
- Palliative/End of life Care Counselling
- Practice patient care according to his/her Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility
- Discuss patient’s desired goals and outcomes
- Encourage patient’s client to discuss emotions and experiences
- Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
- Ensure that all documentation is maintained accurately and timeously reflecting patient care
- Provide relevant information or resources specific to the patient’s needs
- Assist patients to set goals and adopt strategies to address their issues
- Refer patients to other healthcare professionals where appropriate
- Report upon potential/actual risks identified
- Liaise with healthcare professionals as part of a health management team
- Workshop Facilitation
- Palliative/End of life Care Training-Psychosocial Aspects-to medical facilities, in-house and out of house
- Palliative/End of life Care Advocacy-in-house and out of house
- Responsibility extends to the whole organization, Homes Children, Hospice Patients, Hospice Patient Families
Requirements:
- BA/BSc Psychology
- Registered with HPCSA as a Registered Counsellor
- Experience in Pediatrics and/or Palliative Care an advantage
- Willing to further studies in Palliative Care if not already done
- Extensive experience in Trauma and Bereavement
- Knowledge and experience with HIV/AIDS counselling
- Minimum of two years’ hospital experience
- Flexibility in working hours
- Proven track record
- Must be a South African Citizen
- Drivers Licence essential
- Strong work ethic

- Patience and a calm manner
- Ability to cope with emotional situations
- Ability to relate to a wide range of people
