Search DRC

Our program in the DRC is the largest in the organization, with a diverse, dynamic and committed staff working on transforming conflict across various sectors and regions.

We are searching for…

The Reporting and Communications Officer who will work under the supervision of the Director of Programs to ensure the submission of high quality reports that speak to results and demonstrate impact. S/he will also drive business development and proposal writing at the country level and work with in-country teams to produce high quality communications materials. The successful candidate will have at least 3 years of experience in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, international development, or program management; a critical and analytical mindset; and be a superb writer in both English and French.

Your contribution

The roles and responsibilities of this role include:

Reporting (50%)

You will ensure the timely submission of high quality reports from the Search – DRC program to its donors. Key steps in this process will be to:

  • Coordinate across a wide variety of projects to ensure all inputs from the field are received on time to allow for ample feedback and revision prior to submission to the donor;
  • Provide critical feedback to project managers in order to get highly substantive, results-oriented information to include in reports;
  • Write the final draft of reports to submit to the Director of Programs and Regional Program Manager; and,
  • Identify capacity gaps and build project managers’ skills in reporting via coaching and training.

Business Development and Proposal Writing (20%)

You will play a key role in the Search – DRC’s business development. In fulfilling this role, you will be expected to:

  • Identify and track potential funding opportunities to allow Search – DRC to expand its impact;
  • Review calls for proposals as well as other fundraising documents to ensure everyone on the team understands the requirements of individual opportunities;
  • Attend project design meetings, recording all relevant information that needs to be considered in the development of proposals;
  • Contribute to the design of new projects;
  • Write all assigned proposal sections; and,
  • Research donors to identify key thematic and issue areas where Search – DRC could build on its impact.

Communications – Internal and External (20%)

You will help Search – DRC to communicate its impact, both within Search for Common Ground and externally. As part of this, you will need to:

  • Coordinate with project managers and other Search staff to identify high impact projects;
  • Work with Search staff to develop success stories to be featured on the global website and other social media channels; and,
  • Identify potential opportunities for Search – DRC to be featured in external media coverage.

Other (10%)
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, you may be expected to fulfill other tasks as required. Such responsibilities may include:

  • Ensure project information is included in country and regional knowledge management systems; and,
  • Assist country senior management in updating country-level Grants Management Tracker.

You are… You meet the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in conflict resolution, international development, or project management;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience especially in the field of conflict resolution, international development or project management;
  • Native speaker of English or French, with fluency in the other;
  • An excellent writer in both English and French;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Great Lakes region, or other countries in transition in Africa;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of peacebuilding and conflict resolution programs;
  • Experience writing donor reports and proposals;
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail;
  • Clear written and oral communication;
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and complex processes;
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills; and,
  • Ability and willingness to live in a stressful, fast paced, and dynamic environment.

Expected Salary: 36,000 USD/annum in addition to 1,000 USD/monthly housing allowance

Search for Common Ground was established in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2001. SFCG’s DRC program runs multiple programs to enable Congolese at all levels of society to transform conflict without violence and build durable peace. SFCG in DRC has approximately 110 staff located in offices in Kinshasa, Bukavu, Goma, Bunia and Kalemie and collaborates with partners in all provinces. SFCG DRC’s programs use diverse peacebuilding tools including mediation, dialogue, capacity building, media productions and training,   participatory theatre, mobile cinema, comic books, joint action projects, public forums, and arts and culture approaches.  The program tackles various issues across a range of sectors, including governance, repatriation and reintegration of returnees, security sector reform, media training and professionalization, sexual and gender based violence as well as regional cohesion.
