Vision – To enable mentally disabled individuals to grow to their full potential. Mission – Irene Homes is an Anglican Church organisation, providing residential and day care support and skills training for mentally disabled women and men of all Christian denominations and other faiths, with the ultimate goal of improved self-awareness, self-growth and job creation Humble beginnings Our facility was founded in 1902 when the Bishop of the Anglican Church in Pretoria asked the Sisters of the Community of St Mary the Virgin in Wantage, England to open a House of Mercy to care for women and girls who were abandoned and in difficult situations. In 1909 the Homes relocated to its current premises in Irene and expanded its services to accommodate women, their children and the elderly.
