Resource Mobilization and Communication Officer Vacancy Announcement
Mathiwos Wondu-YeEthiopia Cancer Society (MWECS) is non-government and non-profit making organization. MWECS is collaboratively working with Ministry of Health & other partners in non-communicable diseases in general & cancer in particular. MWECS works include public awareness, prevention, care and support of cancer patients. For further information, please refer to our website www.mathiwos.org.
MWECS is currently working on pediatric cancer, women cancer (breast and cervical cancer) and cancer risk factors such as tobacco control. The society intends to recruit experienced & competent Resource Mobilization and Communication Officer. The post holder will be involved in resource mobilization and communication activities. He or she will also implement the organization resource mobilization plan. The Resource Mobilization assignment covers 60% of the effort level and the Communication work covers the remaining 40%.

Duties and Responsibilities
Resource Mobilization
- Identify potential donors; raise resources through various means to support MWCES projects & activities.
- Assist the Executive Director and Board Directors in developing the MWCES resource mobilization & fundraising action plan and ensure its timely implementation.
- Make presentations to local businesses, corporations, individuals, etc. in for fundraising and other special events.
- Assist the Executive Director and Board Directors with special research needs (for example: prospect identification).
- Involve and build sustainable Resource Development (RD) Programs.
- Assist in the training, guiding, advising and mentoring of staff and volunteers with RD responsibilities.
- Liaise with the international and local donors by sending recognitions/thank you letter for contribution made to MWCES.
- Advocate for the MWCES’s vision for in-country fundraising and provide information, ideas and resources for achieving this vision and strategy.
- Develop and maintains a RD database to track prospective and actual donors.
- Supervise the work of other RD staff, as appropriate.
- Manage the work of other communication staffs, as appropriate.
- Monitoring members and donors and ensure their engagements for resource mobilization, visibility and sustainability of MWECS.
Communication
- In coordination with other MWCES’s and stakeholders, coordinate and execute a communications strategy and programs designed to meet the marketing and communications needs of the MWECS.
- Oversee the design and production of materials that effectively communicate the organization’s mission and work in the country.
- Publish MWCES’s newsletter on quarterly basis.
- Develop and maintain professional contacts and relationships with key local print, electronic, broadcast and social media. Seek media opportunities for op-eds, articles and interviews.
- Serve as communications advisor to the Management Team and assist them with the development of required communications plans.
- Gather information with a view to finding relevant information to be pitched to the media. Draft press releases, media advisories, statements to be attributed to the staff, op-eds and other press documents as requested by the Executive Director or other managers.
- Organize press conferences, press launches, media, dinner and other press events. Organize journalists’ trips to selected communities.
- Maintain database and library of media and communications resources.
- Develop a resource base of communications and media materials and data that can be of use to national communications staff.
- Closely monitor national & international media outlets and updates MWECS staff with relevant information & promptly respond to any issue related to MWECS.
- Effectively use MWECS web site & social media platforms.
Job Requirements
Required Skills and Experience
- BA Degree in social sciences preferably, communication, journalism or economics.
- A minimum of four years working experience preferably in resource mobilization & communication project implementation.
- Excellent proficiency & communication skill in English, Amharic & other languages.
- Good level of behavioral competencies.
