Project Description:

FHI 360 is seeking applications for the position of Senior Advisor for Community Engagement for the LINKAGES project in South Africa.  The project aims to reduce HIV incidence and mitigate the impact of HIV among men who have sex with men in South Africa by utilizing a client-centered differentiated service delivery model that provides a comprehensive package of services and interventions for MSM, ranging from hotspot-based coverage within geographic locations to virtual online to offline approaches. LINKAGES South Africa aims to fill critical gaps, reduce bottlenecks, and eliminate barriers across the HIV prevention, care, treatment, and support cascade (identify, reach with prevention services and commodities, link to HIV and STI testing and counselling, wrap-around services referrals, peer outreach and navigation activities for improved linkages, retention and adherence to ART) to reach the 95:95:95 goals among MSM in South Africa. LINKAGES is tasked to build the capacity of local community based MSM organizations to deliver HIV services tailored to the needs of MSM. While significant progress has been made to date, USAID/South Africa and LINKAGES aims to support approaches that are systematic, coordinated, data-driven, and community-led that will significantly stem new infections, mitigate the impact of HIV, and address structural barriers, including stigma and discrimination.

Job Description

The Senior Advisor Community Engagement will provide leadership on a wide spectrum of client-based differentiated service delivery strategies and interventions for MSM that will strengthen HIV prevention, care, treatment, and support across the cascade to help reach the 95:95:95 goals by 2030.  In addition, S/he will lead and oversee community mobilization activities to address structural and social barriers to accessing services and fulfillment of rights of MSM, skills development in community mobilization, and shaping policy. S/he will engage with key stakeholders (e.g. South African Government KP and HIV/AIDs coordinating bodies, project consortium members, grantee organizations, KP community members, etc.) to develop and implement a strategy for mentorship and capacity development in community mobilization, advocacy, gender, service delivery and organizational development.

The following are the minimum qualifications required for the position:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Management Social Work, or Business Administration with a focus on public health, social sciences, or related field; OR a minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in the field of Public Health and HIV;
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in working on community engagement, mobilization, advocacy or related activities with South African MSM;
  • Demonstrated ability to be able to effectively work with MSM and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders including government, community and other civil society organizations, and the private sector;
  • Demonstrated ability to be able to effectively work with MSM and effectively coordinate with a range of stakeholders including government, community and other civil society organizations, and the private sector;
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of U.S. Government program management regulations; and
  • Demonstrated written, presentation, communication and organizational skills in English.

The position will ideally be based in Pretoria, South Africa and work out of the FHI 360 office. Preference is for South African nationals or expatriate professionals already residing in South Africa.

Suitably qualified candidates openly living with HIV and/or who are representative of the key populations affected by HIV are also actively encouraged to apply.
