Founded in 2002, by President William J. Clinton and Ira C. Magaziner, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (“CHAI”) is a global health organization committed to saving lives, reducing the burden of disease and strengthening integrated health systems in the developing world.

CHAI’s HIV Access Program (HAP) works to address supply-side barriers to access and to foster a healthy marketplace to ensure the sustainable supply of essential medicines at lower prices. At the country level, CHAI helps governments understand the market, access lower drug prices, and facilitate the roll-out of new and improved product. CHAI will be supporting the Swaziland Ministry of Health in introducing a new first line ARV (TLD) in 2018. Additionally, country teams work closely with governments to scale up and strengthen care and treatment programs. CHAI is seeking a highly motivated individual with outstanding credentials, analytical ability, management capabilities, and communication skills to serve as a Senior Associate for CHAI Swaziland’s HIV Access Program.

Responsibilities

Provide in-depth and high-quality technical assistance to the Swaziland National AIDS Program (SNAP) to optimize treatment for people living with HIV. Key areas will include:

  • Provide technical assistance to SNAP for the roll-out of new country guidelines and TLD including quantification of implementation costs and patient benefit;
  • Proactively identify potential barriers to uptake of new ARVs and new guidelines and develop interventions to overcome identified barriers to the roll out of these formulations;
  • Implement effective and efficient forecasting and supply planning for to ensure consistent availability of high quality, cost-effective medicine and diagnostics;
  • Improve systems that ensure the availability of ARVs and other essential medicines at the central and facility level, and support implementation of sustainable processes for data and commodity management;
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the priorities, challenges and gaps associated with procurement, distribution and consumption of health commodities in Swaziland;
  • Develop new relationships and strengthen existing ones with MOH stakeholders and country partners;
  • Provide strategic insight at technical working groups (TWGs);
  • Advise CHAI HIV Access Program Manager on implementation of activities and opportunities to develop new work streams;
  • Liaise with Global HIV Access Program to share key country insights, and to keep abreast of newly available products and pricing, and potential supply challenges in the marketplace;
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by manager

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree/tertiary degree in business or health-related fields
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience required (ideally with increasing responsibilities & demonstrated career progression), with preference for experience in business or public health-related analysis
  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and quantitative skills, including high proficiency in MS Access, MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to navigate complex government processes and favorably influence decision-making in a professional and collaborative manner
  • Demonstrated ability to perform consistently at a high level in unstructured, high-pressure situations
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently and flexibly with a strong commitment to excellence and limited supervision
  • Understanding of procurement and supply chain processes, ideally in a health context
