Senior Associate, HIV Self-Testing 191 views0 applications

Overview

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries, while strengthening the capabilities of governments and the private sector in those countries to create and sustain high-quality health systems that can succeed without our assistance.

CHAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and is committed to providing an environment of fairness, and mutual respect where all applicants have access to equal employment opportunities. CHAI values diversity and inclusion, and recognizes that our mission is best advanced by the leadership and contributions of people with diverse experience, backgrounds, and culture.

Since 2002, CHAI has been a leader in expanding and accelerating access to HIV treatment, reducing the cost of drugs and diagnostic tests, and strengthening the capacity of governments to prevent and diagnose HIV and to initiate people living with HIV on life-saving treatment.

One critical component of CHAI’s HIV testing program is the introduction and scale up of HIV Self-Testing (HIVST), which allows people to quickly and privately test themselves for HIV. This innovative approach has already significantly expanded access to HIV testing and will continue to play a growing role in HIV testing service delivery overall. CHAI is supporting partner governments to introduce HIVST into national HIV Testing Services (HTS) programs while working with global stakeholders and manufacturers to lower the cost of HIVST products.

Position

The Senior Associate, HIV Self-Testing (HIVST), will be a member of CHAI’s Global HIV Access Program, supporting the HTS Team. This team drives strategy development and execution of both supply- and demand-side activities to catalyze the introduction of HIVST products and expansion of HIVST approaches. The Senior Associate will work closely with the Senior Manager for HIV Diagnostics to develop and execute market shaping interventions for priority rapid HIV diagnostics, including HIVST, as well as support the subsequent introduction of these products in focal countries. This will involve working with suppliers, Ministries of Health, and CHAI country teams to support new product introduction and scale up.

The ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balance competing priorities, and function independently are critical. Experience working and living in Eastern and Southern Africa will be an advantage. Knowledge of public health systems in low- and middle-income countries, in particular HIV and HIV testing, is preferred, but not required. There will be opportunity for growth in understanding of specific technical content and implementation management within this role.

Responsibilities

  • Support CHAI focal countries to adopt and integrate new and existing HIVST products into national HTS programs
  • Monitor HIV rapid diagnostic market, including generating uptake and demand forecasts, conducting research on suppliers, and tracking data on funders’ procurement plans and overall HTS strategy
  • Collect and collate country-level data on uptake of rapid HIV diagnostics, including procurement volumes, scale-up plans, and consumption rates
  • Support the Senior Manager with quantitative and qualitative analyses of market intelligence data to inform the development and implementation of supply side interventions
  • Develop presentations and strategy documents for/to internal and external audiences that clearly articulate and advance CHAI’s HIVST supply side strategy
  • Work with CHAI country teams, governments, and partners to identify funding for increased and sustainable investment in rapid diagnostic products
  • Develop and execute quantitative and qualitative analyses around major HIVST programmatic questions in focal countries, with support and supervision from the Senior Program Manager
  • Support workplanning and tracking of country activities in line with grant deliverables, including support to monthly and annual grant reporting
  • Provide technical support to HTS team, CHAI country teams, Ministries of Health, donors, and multilateral partners in development and implementation of evidence-based HIVST strategies
  • Provide additional support to country teams and grant activities as identified with the Senior Program Manager

Qualifications– Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of professional experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver compelling presentations

  • Experience navigating government processes involving multiple stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills, including high level of proficiency with excel
  • Availability for international travel up to 25% [Note: under normal circumstances, this role would require regular travel across program countries. Travel will depend on the evolving COVID-19 context and any safety or travel restrictions.]
