Zambia has made significant gains in reducing under-five mortality due to improvement in quality and access to health services. However, even though more children are surviving, an unacceptably large number of children continue to fail to attain their full developmental potential in life. The recent Lancet series on Early Childhood Development (ECD) strongly emphasizes the need for essential health services and policies to expand their scope to include interventions that promote early stimulation and responsive caregiving—e.g., counseling caregivers on how to play and communicate with children, screening for developmental milestones, and making referrals in case of developmental delays.
The Subcutaneous DMPA (DMPA-SC) Access Collaborative is another one of the projects being led by PATH in partnership with John Snow, Inc., and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation. The Access Collaborative is working with ministries of health and partners across sectors in 8 to 12 countries over three years to facilitate DMPA-SC (brand name: Sayana Press) country introduction and scale-up planning, and provide technical assistance to ensure implementation of each country’s total market plan. Initial countries are likely to include Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Madagascar, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Uganda, and Zambia, contingent on local interest. The project is also helping to mobilize resources by raising awareness of relevant funding gaps among donors.
PATH is now seeking a full time Senior Program Assistant to provide administrative and targeted programmatic support to our ECD and DMPA – SC projects in Zambia. This is a fixed Term contract based in Lusaka, Zambia and will report directly to the Technical Advisor at PATH Office in Lusaka. This person will be part of more than 30 staff working in six countries to promote PATH policy advocacy goals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support on communications, meetings, trainings, and event coordination for all APP project related activities.
- Coordinate meetings and activities on behalf of partner initiatives, including planning meetings, maintaining contact lists, and disseminating regular updates to the group (namely the Maternal Newborn Child Health Alliance).
- Facilitate communication between Zambia APP staff and other partners, and maintain activity files, records, and documents relevant to project activities.
- Prepare materials, contracts, agendas, and distribute notices of meetings, workshops, and other programs. Take and disseminate notes as needed.
- Assist with completion of administrative forms and financial paperwork, including management of requisitions and inventories, offices supplies, furniture, and equipment.
- Perform specialized duties and responsibilities for specific project assignments such as desk reviews and data collection of policies related to maternal and newborn health.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or equivalent.
- Minimum three (03) year of experience working in an office setting. Experience working with international organizations preferred.
- Ability to execute administrative tasks with attention to detail.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of financial and contractual processes.
- Ability to work with diverse vendors and stakeholders to organize frequent meetings, workshops, and travel.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Capacity to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members.
- Proficient in working with computer software.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills in English.
- Experience with compiling health or policy information is strongly desired.
- Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia.
