Christian Aid is now looking to recruit a Senior Programme Officer – Emergency response to support our development and humanitarian work in Burkina-Faso and across Africa.

About the role

The role purpose is to develop and coordinate Christian Aid’s emergency programme, including response, preparedness and recovery/rehabilitation and peace-building actions. Ensure that emergency actions are in line with the overall country strategy and Christian Aid’s Emergency Response Strategy.

The role purpose is also :

  • To be responsible for managing a large or complex number of Christian Aid partnerships and programmes in these areas, while ensuring effective monitoring and evaluation of programmes and delivery of results. To contribute to the development of Christian Aid’s policy and strategy in Burkina Faso, the region or division. To contribute to the representation and branding of Christian Aid and engage and promote advocacy, communication and fundraising especially with institutional donors. The role may include a technical specialisation such as protection (GBV), CHS and/or may include staff management or training, as well as Safeguarding monitoring.
  • The role is linked to other interventions, mainly Wash, Cash transfer, Shelter & NFI, small-scale agricultural development and other income generating activities for women. This role has a particular focus on shelter/NFI, food security and nutrition and its holder should have demonstrable technical capacity in these areas.

In addition, the role requires maintaining good relations with government stakeholders and NGOs on emergency and related appropriate technologies and relevant intervention leaders in Wash, Shelter and Cash transfer.

About you

This role is fully in line with one of the three key objectives of the strategic plan 2018-2023 of the CA programme in Burkina Faso namely: to “link response, preparedness and resilience”.

Applied skills/knowledge and expertise

  • Graduate (Master’s degree BAC + 5) in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
  • Proven experience of least five (05) years in developing and running complex and multi-stakeholder programs in a variety of contexts, including Sahelian countries
  • Proven experience of at least three (03) years in the development and management of humanitarian Emergency projects and programs
  • Proven experience in the development of project concepts notes / proposals
  • Good knowledge and proven experience of FCDO (former DFID) and EU / ECHO (or other major intuitional donors) funded programmes;
  • Good knowledge and proven experience of working in partnership and through a consortium. Excellent written and oral communication skills, imperative mastery of French (read, written and spoken), proficiency in professional English (reporting with an anglophone funder)
  • Familiarity with capacity and vulnerability assessments-including participatory approaches and tools for planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Good understanding of the nexus Emergency – Development and Peace building
  • IT competency required Intermediate
  • Knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standards

Desirable

  • Academic background in humanitarian development, international development, sociology, economics, management, … ;
  • Desirable understanding of resilience creation processes to livelihoods and vulnerabilities
  • Excellent understanding of Emergency management programming
