1. Background

SOS Children’s Villages International is a federation of over 130 SOS Children’s Villages associations worldwide. We build families for neglected, abandoned or orphaned children, we help them shape their own futures and we share in the development of their communities under our childcare programs.

Education and Health programs are among our flagship services that complements our childcare work. In the ever-changing development and humanitarian landscape, our current direct delivery / interventions in these service areas will gradually phase out, and our role shall focus on playing more of a facilitative role. The proposed Regional Education Programs Guidelines will therefore provide a clear way forward to be adopted by federation member countries within Eastern & Southern Africa Region now and in the foreseeable future.

SOS Children’s Villages International, offices of the Eastern and Southern Africa region therefore seeks to engage a short term Consultant to facilitate in the development of a Regional Education Guideline Document under the coordination of the project manager working collaboratively within a task team set up. This brief consultancy role will be home-based with regular interfaces (face-to-face / online sessions) with the Project Manager based in Nairobi and periodically with the larger task team members. The tasks of the role holder will include but not limited to, professionally editing and putting together the task packages together inform of a draft document in line with agreed content structure, proof reading to ensure conciseness and flow of the document, make additional content input(s) from various stakeholders including pictorials, diagrams, illustrations when and where necessary. **

2. Deliverables

a. 1st Draft of the consolidated document based on the task packages,

b. 2nd Draft Document based on the inputs of the task team members,

c. 3rd Draft Document based on the inputs from the Member Associations (MAs)

d. 4th Draft Document basd on inputs from IOR/ IO/PSAs

e. Final refined Document with required quality ready for dissemination & publication.

Member Associations, IOR, IO and PSAs.

5. Period of assignment

This service agreement shall be effective from 27th July to 31st August 2020.

6. Work arrangement

The consultant is under the direct supervision of the project manager who will ensure provision of support in carrying out this exercise. All deliverables stated above are subject to review and approval of the project manager In consulation with the Regional Program Director/Deputy Program Director

7. Place of assignment

The Consultant will coordinate regularly and directly with the project manager virtially (online) or where possible via face-to-face . All deliverables will require acceptance and approval of the project manager.

8. Scope of Work

  1. Consolidation of the task packages already developed into a single coherent 1st draft document in close collaboration with the project manager,
  2. Deivery of the 1st and subsequent draft documents as outlined and briefly explained below:

a. 1st draft consolidation: the task team members already delivered their task packages that awaits consolidation. The role holder’s first task will be to consolidate these into a single coherent draft document,

b. The 1st draft document will be delivered to the project manager for his review, acceptance and approval,

c. The project manager will disseminate the 1st draft document to the task team members for their inputs,

d. The consultant will incorporate the inputs from the task team members to come up with the 2nd Draft document which should now also have a clear content structure,

e. The project manager will dissminate the 2nd draft document to Memebrs Associations for their inputs,

f. The consultant will incorporate inputs from the member associations to come up with the 3rd Draft document,

g. The project manager will disseminate the 3rd draft document to ESAF IOR, IO and PSAs for their inputs,

h. The consultant will incorporate inputs from ESAF IOR, IO and PSAs to come up with the 4th Draft document,

i. The consultant working closely with the project manager works towards refinement of the Final Draft document ready for dissemination and publication.
