Purpose of the Position:

EPI has been supporting key surveillance, routine EPI and SIAs through deployment of technical assistance in Ethiopia. The objective of the program is to reduce morbidity and mortality by providing immunization against target diseases for all children in the first five years of life.

Description of Duties

Under the overall supervision of the Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI) Focal Person and in close collaboration with the central EPI team and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH), the officer will provide technical guidance and will cooperate with the government authorities towards the goals of Polio Eradication and measles elimination through coordination of implementation of high quality campaigns. The officer will specifically execute the following tasks:

Reviews the micro planning template and training guideline for the SIA. Coordinates and monitors Regional Facilitator’s activities. Reviews Zonal and woreda level micro plans prior to implementation and ensures adequate preparation. Coordinates the distribution of logistics from the Federal to Regional level. Monitors level of preparedness for the campaign at Federal, Regional and Zonal levels. Facilitates the briefing of independent monitors at central level. Coordinates the SIA trainings at all levels Monitors implementation of the campaign on a daily basis during the specified dates. Provides regular feedback and updates on the central team on the progress of activities at field level. Carries out any other assignments as assigned by supervisors

Required Qualification

Education

Essential: BSc in health related fields (Health officers, Environmental health, BSC Nurse…)

Desirable: Masters in Public Health

Experience

Desirable: Experience in UN or other international organization is an advantage with five years of relevant experience

Excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English and & fluency in the working language of the country.

Expected Outputs:

Under the direct supervision of EPI Team Leader, the Consultant will work with the WHO Ethiopia EPI team and the FMoH to provide technical expertise in public health and epidemiology, planning, program management and coordination of health programs, especially as it relates to SIAs, vaccine preventable diseases and routine immunization; ability to train others; familiarity with key routine and supplemental immunization strategies.

No of vacant posts: Roaster Annual remuneration: NOC step 1 as per UN salary scale which will be USD 1,692.58/month payable in ETB at the prevailing UN exchange rate.
