FHI 360 seeks qualified candidates for the position SBC Technical Advisor / Project Lead for Fiovana, a USAID-funded nutrition and food security program in Madagascar that is managed by the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA). FHI 360 is a subrecipient of ADRA on this USAID/Food for Peace (FFP)-funded award. The position is expected to remain over the life of the project (5 years) and will be based in Manakara.
FIOVANA, meaning “change” in Malagasy, aims to achieve sustainable improvement of food and nutrition security and resilience of vulnerable populations in Atsimo Atsinanana and Vatovavy-Fitovinany regions. The program will operate in three interdependent domains of change:
1) Sustained improvement in the health and nutritional status of WRA, adolescent girls, and children under 5 (CU5);
2) HH incomes are sufficient to access food and non-food essentials and build savings; and
3) Enhanced social and ecological risk management.
Social and behavior change (SBC) and local capacity strengthening weave throughout these domains, providing building blocks for sustainable impact.
Position Overview:
The SBC Technical Advisor / Project Lead will provide strategic leadership over the design and implementation of SBC activities across the project. S/he will concurrently serve as the project manager/representative in country.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee programmatic and technical aspects related to SBC activities ensuring SBC efforts are evidence-based, community-driven and in line with provisions of the award.
- Provide strategic leadership to design, plan, and implement SBC activities across the project.
- Lead formative research and the development of an SBC strategy and implementation plan.
- Lead the development of SBC tools.
- Oversee the monitoring of activity progress related to SBC to ensure a consistency and coherency across interventions.
- Work with external stakeholders including host country government, international donors, multilateral organizations, and the private sector.
Minimum Requirements:
- Seven (7) years of progressively increasing technical responsibility leading to a senior level of expertise in SBC, preferably in the sector/technical areas covered by this project
- Master’s degree or its international equivalent in relevant technical areas (2 years of applicable experience can be substituted for a Master’s degree)
- Demonstrated understanding of a range of SBC approaches that address change in social norms, structures, and individual behaviors.
- Strong project management, intercultural supervisory and team-building skills and experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, preferably in both French and English.
- Experience with international donor-funded projects.
- Relevant computer software skills (including, at a minimum, the standard applications in MS Office).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong understanding of local cultural practices, social networks, and gender and age dynamics
- Knowledge of agricultural, livelihood, and/or food security programming.
- Experience managing award funded by USAID and Food for Peace (FFP).
- Mentoring and facilitation skills.
Travel Requirements:
20%-30% in country
