The TWENDE project falls under the GCF category: Increased resilience of ecosystem and ecosystem services. The objective of this project is to reduce the cost of climate change induced drought on Kenya’s national economy by increasing resilience of the livestock and other land use sectors in restored and effectively governed rangeland ecosystems.
The project will contribute to improved adaptation to climate change of Kenya’s national policy of “Ending Drought Emergencies”, as outlined in “Kenya Vision 2030”. The project will strengthen climate change adaptation in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), addressing through three components: Climate change adapted planning for drought resilience, Restoration of rangeland landscapes for ecosystem-based adaptation and Climate change resilient ecosystem management for investments (CI led component).
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Regional Director for Conservation Finance, the Landscape Manager for Southern Kenya will be primarily responsible for the implementation and management of the Chyulu Hills Restoration Project. Additionally, as the point person for the GCF TWENDE Project, they will be required to liaise with and coordinate all activities with the landscape partners and develop the overarching strategy for the Southern Kenya landscape.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the implementation of:
- The Chyulu Hills Restoration Project (Phase 2) and
- The GCF TWENDE Project in the Southern Kenya Landscape. The latter will include the project design, and requisite project management, governance and reporting mechanisms; oversight of the sub-grantees restoration, enterprise and community savings and loans activities.
- Liaise with local partners and the Northern Kenya Landscape Manager
- Support in the oversight of Chyulu Hills REDD+ projects, leveraging subject matter experts within CI to support the activities in the Chyulu’s landscape
- Develop CI’s overarching strategy for the Southern Kenya Landscape, with a view to expanding into the Eastern Kenya Communities. This will include the development of new funding concepts and/or proposals focused on new and innovative investing mechanisms.
