COOPI has been present in Sudan since 2004. The recent history of Sudan is marked by strong disorders and violence, expressions of a civil war that on several occasions has shaken the country since its independence. COOPI’s interventions focused in the Darfur region that for a long time has been the scene of armed clashes and particularly hit by periods of severe drought. To allow the management of these activities and to ensure access to basic services for the population, different interventions were carried out, in the field of water-hygiene and food security both on humanitarian and development perspective.

COOPI is now looking for Project Managers in order to strengthen COOPI presence in the country and, in particular, to implement new projects in the field of WaSH, Environment and Climate Change.

Position: Project Manager with logistic expertise

Refers to: Head of Mission

Duty station: El Fasher (Darfur)

Field of intervention: WaSH, Logistic

Responsibilities

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall development, management and quality of the project.

  • Referring to the Head of Mission, he/she coordinates and directly supervises projects, guaranteeing their correct implementation in conformity with contractual obligations and donors’ procedures, and in line with the COOPI’s procedures and management standards;
  • He/She is responsible for the preparation of projects’ reports and all monitoring documents requested by the coordination;
  • He/She identifies and supervise the financial and economic commitment required for the project implementation. He/she ensures that all administrative documents are transmitted to the Country Coordination;
  • He/She guarantees ordinary contacts with operational and institutional interlocutors involved in the implementation of the project;
  • He/she ensures good visibility of the projects’ overall goals, policies and envisaged and/or results achieved as per COOPI and donor communication policies;
  • He/she coordinates the elaboration, writing, and necessary documents preparation for presenting new projects, referring to the Head of Mission.

Supervise implementation of logistics activities in El Fasher and field office basis, which include:

  • Timely and sound procurement process implementation and purchasing of goods and equipment for offices and programs;
  • Storage and delivery of items;
  • Provide support to Project Managers to solve programs’ implementation problems related to logistics, procurement and security;
  • Inventory update.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of relevant field experience in humanitarian programs;
  • Proven expertise in WaSH, logistic management;
  • Previous experience in the country is an asset;
  • Sound knowledge of international donors procedures, in particular EU/ECHO;
  • Excellent reporting writing skills;
  • Strong staff management skills;
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking capacity;
  • Adequate resilience to stress;
  • Familiarity with the context and security is an advantage;
  • English is essential

COOPI - Cooperazione Internazionale is an Italian Non-governmental Organization for Cooperation and Development, founded by Father Vincenzo Barbieri in 1965. Over the last 50 years COOPI has aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and supporting population affected by wars, socio-economic crisis or disasters in order to encourage resilience and sustainable development. COOPI is currently involved in 24 countries in Africa, Middle East Latin America and Caribbean with 150 humanitarian projects that reach nearly 2 million and 400 thousand people.

It stands at the international level for: - the care of maternal and child malnutrition; - food security interventions; - protection of war victims (women, girls subjected to abuses by armed groups and child soldiers); - the promotion of the rights of indigenous peoples; - the introduction of renewable energy; - disaster risk reduction.

Every project aims to protect women, children and environment. The financial statement is certified by an audit company. 2014 final budget is more than € 30 million and 600 thousand, 93% of which was used for interventions in the Southern World and 7% to fund the Organization. The funds come mainly from institutional donors, above all from the European Commission. Since 2006 it has also been involved in the Child Sponsorship Programme in 8 countries, providing food, education, health and protection to 2,712 children. COOPI employs 125 expatriates and 3,800 local operators. In Italy it employs 50 employees, 15 co-workers and 653 volunteers. From 1965 to 2015, COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale has helped 100 million people in 63 Countries, by employing 55,000 local workers in 1,600 projects.
