  • At WFP, we are looking for talented professionals that would like to join our FIT Pool in Supply Chain and Logistics to provide specialist advice and analytics, and contribute to integrated supply chain operations at a global / regional level, or lead field supply chain operations, to ensure an effective and integrated supply chain approach meeting the food assistance needs of beneficiaries and service provision requirements for partners.
  • Supply Chain and Logistics are fundamental on the entire process of end-to-end planning, sourcing and delivering of assistance. This covers safe and quality food, goods and transport, as well as shared supply chain services for WFP, its partners and the entire humanitarian community.

Key Accountabilities (Not All-Inclusive)
As a Supply Chain and Logistics Officer (P3 UN professional level), you:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of supply chain plans and procedures, in line with the global WFP supply chain strategy and regional / functional strategies, policies, and plans, to achieve operational cost efficiency, agility, reliability, quality and to support national capacity strengthening.
  • Analyze regional / country context, and design and manage end-to-end operational supply chain and retail networks, to mitigate and address dynamic supply chain challenges and obtain operational optimization.
  • Plan and manage the implementation of innovative supply chain operations, initiatives and services to ensure timely, cost-effective and integrated approach with core activities and services and in cooperation with key partners.
  • Provide your technical advice and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation initiatives analyzing standard methodologies from the humanitarian and development fields, academia and the private sector.
  • Plan, monitor and manage resources to maximize the effectiveness of supply chain operations.
  • Build productive partnerships and collaborate with counterparts in critical supply chain functions to ensure an integrated supply chain approach to food assistance and cross-functional operational alignment.
  • Create and review Supply Chain budget plans and monitor ongoing project performance against budget, ensuring adherence to policies and review financial analysis and advice on how to optimize resources.
  • Identify and build productive partnerships with counterparts amongst government and other national organizations, UN agencies, NGOs and private sector to share operational knowledge and resources and build capacity to ensure coordinated and cost-effective supply chain operations.
  • Perform in-depth market analysis and supply chain network mapping to influence the selection of appropriate operation modalities to improve supply chain performance.
  • Lead your supply chain operations to ensure compliance with the established supply chain strategies, policies, procedures and controls, and following corporate standards, with emphasis on quality control, loss prevention, risk mitigation, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Regularly monitor the performance of supply chain operations to ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place.
  • Manage service providers / vendors, port, fleet, and warehouse operations to promote safe, efficient planning and execution of WFP operations and safeguard WFP’s interests.
  • Run accurate and timely reporting, including substantial analysis of supply chain activities and trends, to enable informed decision-making and consistency of information presented to a wide range of partners.
  • Lead, motivate and develop your team by providing coaching, training and career guidance as required, to ensure appropriate development and enable high performance.
  • Contribute to preparedness actions, providing your technical recommendations, guidance and monitoring the management of specific supply chain risks to enable WFP, governments and other partners to quickly respond and deploy food and resources at the onset of the crisis.
  • Take responsibility for integrating protection and gender perspectives in all areas of work, to ensure equal participation of women and men.

Standard Minimum Requirements
Education:

  • Advanced University degree from a recognized university preferably in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics, or other related field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses. Experience:

  • At least 5 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience and a consistent track record in logistics or supply chain.

Desired Experiences For Entry Into The Role:

  • Experience in managing an area of supply chain / logistics operations, including coordination with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Experience in implementing operational supply chain strategies in a country;
  • Experience in designing and implementing supply chain, retail and partnership networks;
  • Experience in managing relationships and building initiatives with external partners;
  • Experience evaluating and selecting service providers and suppliers;
  • Experience identifying operational risks;
  • Experience in implementing approved corrective actions to improve performance and monitor progress;
  • Experience supervising professional staff.

Language:

  • Fluency (level C) in English language.
  • Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or WFP’s working language, Portuguese required. Language will be tested.

Terms and Conditions

  • If you are selected, you will be placed in the FIT Pool and may be contacted as the needs arise for fixed-term international positions in any of the countries in which WFP operates, including hardship duty stations. The FIT Pool membership will last 2 years.
  • Mobility is the essence of WFP and continues to be a core contractual requirement in WFP. This position is rotational which means that you shall be subject to the regular reassignment process unless the position is reclassified as non-rotational. Professional level positions are rotational on a period of 2 to 4 years.
  • WFP offers an attractive compensation and benefits package, including basic salary, post adjustment, relocation entitlement, travel and shipment allowances, 30 days’ annual leave, home leave, an education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance.

The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.

WFP was first established in 1961[4] after the 1960 Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) Conference, when George McGovern, director of the US Food for Peace Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. The WFP was formally established in 1963 by the FAO and the United Nations General Assembly on a three-year experimental basis. In 1965, the programme was extended to a continuing basis.

Organization

The WFP is governed by an Executive Board which consists of representatives from 36 member states. Ertharin Cousin is the current Executive Director, appointed jointly by the UN Secretary General and the Director-General of the FAO for a five-year term. She heads the Secretariat of the WFP.
