In Ethiopia, the Foundation carried out a range of developmental activities since its official registration as INGO in Nov 2016. With focus Benishangul-Gumuz region it has so far successfully implemented various projects. It embarked on a new extended five years program known as Social and Economic Empowerment Program (SEEP). One of the key activities in SEEP is to build on the positive development of the education project by investing in an additional Pharo School in Assosa city.

Subject Teaching Positions, The Pharo Primary School Assosa, Benishangul Gumuz Regional State (BGRS)

Pharo Primary School Assosa, in BGRS is a new school established recently in 2020 by the Pharo Foundation aiming to broaden access to quality and standard educational service delivery in the Assosa city and being able learning excellency in the region. Currently we are at the final stage of preparation to launch the school for the 2020/2021 academic year. The school is preparing to welcome students from Grade 1 to 4 based on its own admission criteria.

We are hiring competent and committed professionals who have the competence, the passion and dedication of work in Assosa, BGRS. We would like to invite qualified applicants for teaching positions in; Amharic, English, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Art & Music, Physical Education, ICT & Librarian.

Position summary

Contract type: Permanent

Report to: The School Principal/Director

Position Description:

Subject teachers are expected to be competent in their field and have the ability discharge their professional responsibility with full understanding of the Foundation’s vision and with utmost commitment and diligence required to achieve the goals set out by the school. All interested applicants are expected to fulfil the following key professional Role & Responsibilities:

Position Role & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and keep timely preparation and application of weekly and daily lesson plans as well as long-term plans as required by the school policy.
  • Interact in professional manner with students, parents, staffs and school leaders.
  • Act in confidential, ethical, and legal manner and become role model to students
  • Motivate students and inspire continuous learning
  • Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students and stick and follow to the school calendar.
  • Always strive and extend fullest effort for student’s better learning outcome and the school learning Excellency.
  • Assist teachers with instructional tasks, to include but not limited to one to one tutoring, organizing instructional and other materials, assist in computer labs, assist with classroom management and parental involvement activities, and translation as needed.
  • Supervise students at recess, lunch, study time, and in other assigned areas.
  • Prepare materials to reinforce the regular classroom lesson under the teacher’s direction.
  • Participate in school or contact related meetings and in-service activities involving program orientation, curriculum design, materials and evaluation procedures.
  • Strive to develop respect among student, parents, staffs, and school leaders.
  • Listens and respect various point of view or diversification of cultural and social.
  • Shows curtesy, integrity and follow-up at any instance of work.
  • Demonstrate an effort to cope up the dynamic of knowledge, skill and attitude.
  • Communicate effectively with families, students and colleagues.
  • Facilitate home school communication by using different mechanisms like telephone, conference/discussion and sending comments via communication book.
  • Use clear and concise language in written and verbal communication in school.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and student records.
  • Work cooperatively with school principals, administers special support personnel, colleagues.
  • Engage actively in implementation of school co-curricular and social support activities.
  • Demonstrate and understanding of the community and parents role in the education of child.
  • Demonstrate accurate and updated knowledge of content.
  • Any other duty as assigned by the school administrator.

Job Requirements

Education, qualification, experience and competency

  • BA/BSc degree in major content taught (Amharic, English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and HPE from recognized universities.  
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant teaching experience for degree holders and 2-4 years’ experience in diploma for ICT and library positions.
  • Practical teaching experience in private schools is preferable for all positions.
  • Enough understanding, knowledge and applied experience in active learning instructional classroom and placing equal opportunities of learning based on learner’s level of acquisitions.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in a school environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Understanding and experience of digital technology supported teaching approaches.
  • Experience in instructional classroom, co-curricular activities and community development tasks.
  • Good understanding and practical experience of school environment of government and private as well as the national education policy, strategies and related issues.
  • Excellent computer knowledge with MS-Word, MS-excel, power point etc

Language Requirements:-

  • Full working knowledge of English and Amharic with good verbal and written communication skills is essential.
