The Opportunity
ROLE PURPOSE:
The Technical Coordinator – Environment and Climate change will lead and coordinate the implementation of all Environment and Climate related interventions as a cross cutting issue in the SIDA Civil Society Strengthening programme.
While working in close collaboration with the strategic and technical partners on Environment and Climate in this program, (NYNCC and CISONECC), as well as the Senior Thematic Advisers (for Save the Children), the Technical Coordinator will play a leading role in coordinating the capacity strengthening initiatives on Environment and Climate for all the implementing and strategic partners at national and district level. The Coordinator will build on Save the Children’s country, regional and global program priorities, policies and guidelines on environment and climate change as well as the existing national laws and policies in ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in the implementation of the programme. He/she will be responsible for the effective and efficient planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting of the environment and climate change activities as well as the achievement of the expected outputs of the SIDA programme. As a programme’s focal point on Environment and Climate Change related programming, the Technical Coordinator will ensure an overall quality support is provided to all partners in this SIDA Civil Society strengthening program. He/she will also play a key role in coordinating and providing technical support to the child-led organisation on issues of environment and climate change.
The Technical Coordinator will further support CSO partners in this program to strengthen linkages and integration of issues of gender and child rights within the interventions of environment and climate change. He/she will work closely with the gender technical coordinator and strategic partner (WOLREC) to establish and strengthen protection mechanisms in the program that address gender implications that emerge with the negative social economic impact of climate change and environmental hazards. He/she will also support the partners in mainstreaming disability and social inclusion in programme’s activities.
He/she will be responsible for creating opportunities for joint planning of the programme’s interventions and participate in the designing of a holistic approach to support the implementation of Environment and Climate Change activities of the programme. He/she will also support with documentation and dissemination of the programme’s lessons learned, case studies and best practices regarding the implementation of Environment and Climate Change interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Rural Development, Development studies and other relevant field.
- Additional training on Environment and Climate Change will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant and progressive work experience in Environment and Climate Change related issues or any similar roles.
- Demonstrable skills and knowledge in child rights, children most impacted by inequality and discrimination, environment and climate change, as well as gender and climate justice
- Demonstrable skills with practical experience in using child participatory approaches in programming as well as mainstreaming interventions
- Strong expertise in Environment and Climate Change programming and mainstreaming
- A good understanding of International protocols and SDGs on Environment and Climate Change as well as the national legal and policy framework on climate action.
- Demonstrable skills in leveraging technical support from strategic partners to promote peer to peer technical support within an integrated program with several partners.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, a collaborative and flexible manner, creativity and willingness to innovate.
- Proven oral and written presentation skills and ability to communicate to a number of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to identify potential problems before they occur. Proactive in preparation and uses initiative in response.
- Computer skills, including internet, office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment, and establish harmonious and effective working relationships both within and outside the organization.
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills required.
Desirable
- Familiarity with SIDA Strengthening Civil Society Programme and donor regulations and policies, or experience with framework funding.
- Excellent inter-personal skills, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Ability to travel domestically as required.
- Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
