FHI 360 is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position Technical Director, Education based in Nairobi, Kenya or another one of FHI 360’s East Africa offices.
Project Description:
FHI 360 is currently working on a large-scale East Africa-focused education in emergencies opportunity which will support children’s social, emotional and academic development from early childhood to early adolescence. The project will test, conduct rigorous evaluations, and scale innovative active learning methodologies for refugee and host community children. The project includes a consortium of partners seasoned in education in emergencies, education development, creative learning methodologies, and research, monitoring and evaluation across a number of East African countries.
Position Description:
Directs the development and implementation process of the project’s services involving departmental and/or cross-functional. Plans and directs schedules and monitors budget/spending. Monitors the project/program from initiation through delivery. Organizes the interdepartmental and consortium members technical activities ensuring completion of the project/program on schedule and within budget constraints. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates the project’s technical personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Responsibilities:
Leads the operation and coordination of technical activities for the multi-country project.
Develops and implements processes and procedures to achieve strategic technical goals of multiple programs.
Directs and guides managers, and staff with training and developing process improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with company and government standards.
Engages in writing publications and developing proposals for new programs.
Provides technical expertise with monitoring and evaluating programs and serves as primary decision maker for technical issues on project/program.
Oversees the strategic direction, budgetary planning, and technical process of department to ensure business objectives are met.
Identifies and consults with executive management on recommendations to make better business decisions.
Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching, and career support.
Minimum Requirements:
A Master’s Degree or higher in education, civil society, international development, social work, social sciences or a closely related field.
At least 10 years of work experience in education in conflict areas and curriculum development
Knowledge of child welfare and education system strengthening in developing countries.
Oral and written communication skills in English required; fluency in Kiswahili and other East African languages desirable.
Ability to travel extensively
Offer will be contingent on award of proposal and approval of funder.
