We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of: Technical Lead, Orphans and other Vulnerable Children (OVC) on a USAID-funded five-year $32.5m project called Ana Patsogogo Activity (APA), which aims to prevent new HIV infections and reduce vulnerability among OVC, OVC caregivers and Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) in Malawi. The estimated award start date, should FHI 360 secure this grant, is July 2020. Recruitment is contingent upon successful award of the project and the selection of the final applicant is subject to USAID approval.
Position Summary:
The Technical Lead, OVC is responsible for technical oversight of the OVC component of the program, including case management. This includes design, implementation and monitoring of sound technical strategies and interventions targeting OVC and OVC caregivers as well as ensuring integration and synergies with the other key program area, focused on AGYW and HIV Prevention.
Essential Job Functions / Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as the lead technical expert in-country on delivery of services to OVC and OVC caregivers.
- Supervises all activities at the community levels relevant to OVC and impact mitigation responses.
- Working closely with and linking to other relevant staff of subawardee and community-based organizations, oversees the identification of vulnerable families and their children as well as plan interventions with them.
- Coordinates the referral services and ensure continuum of care from the community to the health facilities and vice versa.
- Works closely with Monitoring and Evaluation staff to define data needs related to OVC Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to regularly analyze micro-level program data, and to report upon progress and results in a timely fashion.
- Recommends evidence-based improvements in the delivery of OVC services.
- May supervise a team of technical staff.
Minimum Requirements and Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, public health or any related field.
- At least 8 progressive years of experience as a Specialist with a reputable NGO or donor agency.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of project management principles, theories, practices and especially on community and Government engagement processes.
- Practical experience and demonstrated technical expertise in PEPFAR-funded OVC programming within resource-constrained settings – preferably in the region and in Malawi in particular.
- Background in capacity building (training, mentoring, technical assistance provision) is an added asset.
- Malawian nationals/residents preferred.
