The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Technical Worker/Electrician, Fixed term Contract for 4 months, with a possibility of extension.

1.   SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES

  • Diagnose malfunctioning of electrical wiring systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Apply and ensure safety precautions are observed during operation of electrical systems, power tools and advise supervisors on whether continued operation of the system could be hazardous to the building or users.
  • Assemble switchgears, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Assess requirements for electrical installation, generating sets, domestic apparatus installation, plumbing and construction works.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohm meters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including meggers, ammeters, voltmeters, and earth testers.
  •  Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors, pumps.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures
  • Ensure effective information flow within the unit and participate actively.
  • Monitor & direct the daily workers / helpers when required.

 

Property management

  • In coordination with Maintenance Technicians, establishes list inventory of hand tools and repair related items.

 

Security

  •  Contributes to the proper installation and functionality of security equipment at all premises.
  • Under the supervision of the ESAP project manager, assists in ensuring that safety standards are in compliance with ICRC guidelines;

2.   OFFICE ACTIVITIES

a.     Reporting

  • Use proper forms and ensures daily, weekly and monthly reports have been reported to the ESAP project manager.

b.     Administration – Finance

  • Knows, applies and complies with all the administrative and finance procedures.
  • Keeps files up-to-date at all times

3.   GENERAL DUTIES

  •  Understands the three components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement
  • Applies the security rules at all times
  • Respects and observes staff regulations of the ICRC in Ethiopia
  • Performs duties and tasks not covered in this job description and provide support to other departments when necessary

Terms of employment:  Fixed  for 4 months with a possibility of extension

Job Requirements

  • Diploma in Electricity or 10+3 Technical and Vocational certificate in Electricity
  • Good Commands of written & spoken English
  • Basic Computer skill
  • Valid 3rd grade driving Licence, able to drive in town.
  • Able to use office equipment (Computer, copier, & printer etc.)
  • 2 years & above similar experience

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a humanitarian institution based in Geneva, Switzerland and a three-time Nobel Prize Laureate. State parties (signatories) to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977 (Protocol I, Protocol II) and 2005 have given the ICRC a mandate to protect victims of international and internal armed conflicts.
