The Forum is a support network for service providers in the field of intellectual disability in the Western Cape, and based in Maitland.

WCFID seeks to appoint a Training Coordinator (Preferably Therapist/ Social Worker/ Educator) to be based in Cape Town.

Employment Type: 30 hrs per week, with flexibility

Responsibilities:

  • Working with the training team in planning an annual training programme for the sector of intellectual disability in the Western Cape
  • Provide training, making use of in-house content when required
  • Managing all logistics of the roll out of above programme including arrangements with presenters, venue booking, CPD applications, RSVP’s, catering and technology required
  • Management of logistics on the day – set-up, registration, payments, evaluations etc.
  • Post training monitoring and evaluation
  • Networking and site visits as required
  • Recording statistics and writing reports

Requirements:

  • Appropriate degree/qualification and registration with relevant professional body
  • Interest in adult education and ability to both work as a trainer and run workshops
  • Interest and knowledge in community development
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills (computer literate)
  • Ability to capture and analyse data and write reports
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Fluency in English and isiXhosa / Afrikaans, spoken and written
  • Driver’s license for a manual car
  • Flexibility as well as a willingness to handle / address a range of duties
  • Willingness to travel (occasionally)
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience
  • Able to start in January 2020

WCFID is a support network for service providers in the field of Intellectual Disability offering training, resources and support.

The WCFID was originally established in 1971, starting out as a small group of concerned parents and individuals involved with persons with ID. It has since grown into a formally constituted, representational NGO, with a membership of over 150 organisations catering for people with intellectual disability in the Western Cape.

The objectives and activities of the WCFID are to:1 .Provide training to service providers in the field of Intellectual Disability (ID): workshops and courses run from 2 hours to 3 full days. Many courses include CPD (continued professional development) points. 2. Develop and produce innovative culturally appropriate training materials: training material has been developed and showcased at the World HIV Congress 2010 in Vienna, requested by the WHO, and sold throughout South Africa, and requested by numerous African countries. 3. Provide information to the public (about ID, related resources, policy decisions etc.): 220 quarterly newsletters are circulated to our membership and interested parties. Updated data bases of service providers are maintained. Around 375 queries are handled annually. 4. Promote co-operation, and thereby prevent wasteful overlap between, services: Numerous co-ordination support meetings are arranged by the Forum in the sector. 5.
